Very difficult to watch and imo it kept the game closer than it needed to be. Can't we mix it up more?

Is there something we are all missing about 2nd & 8 giving us a better chance for more first downs because I don't see it. One percent of me is saying this is all a setup for the Rutgers game while the other 99% of me is saying what ... are these stubborn old guys watching that makes them think this 1st down dive actually works every single time, especially with our Oline.
