Blue, just reaching out here not scolding. But does your description of our AD make you feel intelligent? Warde nor Susan got where they are because they are dunces. Both were thrown to the dogs, pun intended by timing. He has not been here long enough to deserve this kind of slander period.
We as Uconn fans are all hurting by the turn of events the PAST administration has left us in. Hathaway deserves your wrath more than Warde. Please do not forget, or do some research on just how powerful Larry McHugh is. Warde did not hire our present coaching staff but is bound by contract and ethics to let them see next season. That and also at a state school in a state that is broke $$$$.
Paul will be hiring the new coach or moving people around to fill the void not Warde or at best with his approval. As for nobody wanting to come in with out becoming a HC in short order. There are many out there in the lower divisions looking to move up, just like every coach that has passed through any program. Don Brown did not start his career as a DC looking for the HC job.
Maybe I am just too old to understand that maybe you are too young to do the same.
Perhaps so. In my world, you are expected to perform and your performance is measured by outcome. I would beg to differ on a couple of points. First, there is no correlation necessarily between where people have managed to climb and practical intelligence and performance success, especially the further you are removed from competitive business. Education is a classic. I know plenty of Masters and PHD folks that are such plain dumb. Intelligent? Yes. Smart? No. I can distinctly point to a fair number if Harvard, Yale , Wharton B school grads who are frankly useless when it came to actually getting something done and making smart decisions. Some think they are just entitled to collect money and be praised because they came from an elite institution and others are very brilliant but suffer from analysis paralysis and incredibly poor decision making skills. So, my experience has always been the only way to know if somebody is good at something is by performance and outcome. In the case of managerial roles, leadership is an intangible but real attribute. It has nothing to do with intelligence per se, and everything to do with being able to have an objective or vision and getting others to be inspired and motivated to achieve the vision through the sum total of individual achievements working within a team.
So, in terms of assumptions about folks and credentials, they are informative but rarely do warrant suspending common sense standards of measuring success based outcomes. The problem I have is really a basic one. Neither deserve the benefit of anything other than being held to a standard of success. Both are classically adept at saying nothing concrete regarding vision or objectives. Neither commits their reputation to a self imposed measure of succes, at least not to public scrutiny (yet expect to collect large pay checks).
Compare JFK's statement about going to the moon, and what Warde and Susan have said in regards to anything. Read Susan's pathetic excuse of a letter and consider that. Imagine JFK saying, we're monitoring the soviet space program and we'll stick with conventional aviation programs for the time being. Is the space program the same as the sundry problems of a university? No, not in magnitude, but yes in species.
By "dunce" I mean to be scathingly dismissive, because the man has not earned my respect nor yours. He has shown no vision, no leadership and accomplished nothing. As for Ms. Herbst, the more I learn, the less I like. The technology park is a strong idea that has been around well before her arrival . She gets credit for Sheparding that. But, it suffers again from no strategic alignment. Where is Google, IBM, etc. in supporting or committing to this project? What happened to the research science park at the Rent? As far as sports, she has presided over an absolute dabacle, plain and simple.
Irrespective of whether they came in at a difficult time or inherited a mess, they get paid a lot of money to fix it. Time is one thing. Time frittered with no plan is another.
PS- I guarantee I'm older than you by a long shot unless you're nearing retirement. So, I suspect I have less tolerance or patience for a lot of things. Been around the block a few times and have seen this story unfolding in many contexts.
