I am not well versed in the NET rankings (I don't miss RPI, but I did understand it). Like RPI, I know that NET rankings are not the only factor in getting a bid. But for arguments sake I decided to claim that if your NET ranking isn't over 50, and you are in a non-Power 5 conference, you are probably not getting much at large consideration. This may be harsh, but -
There are 19 conferences that are largely not even close to a team with a 50 NET and those conferences are going to get 1 bid. Leaves 49 bids.
The ASun and Ivy have a team with a relatively high NET, but unless they are upset, they will be 1 bid leagues. Both FGCU and Princeton are well positioned if they lose in an upset.
The conferences with 2 teams with good NET rankings and a possibility of being considered for an at large - The American, A10, Missouri Valley, Summit and West Coast conferences. I could see at large bids being offered to a team from at least 3 of these conferences, but nothing is certain. Thinking situations like SD and SDState; Gonzaga and BYU . . .
The Big East remains best positioned of the non-power 5, with 3 teams with good NET rankings and a 4th not far from my arbitrary cut-off.
As noted, not going to be the only factor, but something to begin thinking about.
