I agree, and I also have visions of Hidalgo. Arizona had too many fouls by the 4th quarter and Fair took advantage of it. Williams, who is very like KK, couldn’t resist reach-in fouls and trying to contest too closely. Blakely and Jones did no better trying to defend her. Every time Fair would taunt them with her handles you knew what was coming. Still, if Martinez and Cunningham hadn’t gotten into foul trouble, they could have held onto their lead and won. But Pueyo couldn’t do it all by herself. As tempting as it may be for Aaliyah and Ice to try to block shots, they should be extra cautious. Having them available and not in foul trouble in the 4th will be key. Leave the shot blocking to Paige. The other thing I noticed is that Fair had no fouls. They didn’t challenge her enough on defense, especially in that 2-3 zone where Coach Jack would try to hide her in the corner. I think that zone could have been exploited, though maybe Williams wasn’t the player to do it. But when they were in man-defense, and Fair was on Williams at the top of the key, she had open shots. I expect Ash (who is 2 inches taller than Williams and likely 5 or 6 inches taller than Fair) will be able to shoot over her from the corner. I also think KK should resist the temptation to try to beat her off the dribble. This is a game when she needs to find her outside shot. The situation we want to avoid is being too tired in the 4th when Fair is not. Make her play defense early, don’t send her to the foul line, and expect she’ll get her 20. They play that zone as much as they can get away with it in order to keep Fair fresh for the 4th. Break down the zone. I’m pretty sure Paige and Ash know how to do that.
