He says she's 6'3"... but not sure I agree with what he says - talks about how solid she is at the mid-range and 3 point shot. I don't know her stats, but from the games of her I watched (specifically the 3x3 FIBA WC), she needs to work on finishing around the basket (ie. missed layups) , and is weak with her jumper and long range shot.

I know those are things that can be worked on - and I'm sure she will. Seems like a super hard working kid who really wants to be great. Can't wait to see her grow and play!!

Hamilton compares her to Haley Jones and that seems not quite right, at least in offensive skills. I remember seeing HJ in the FIBA U18 games and her offense was already much better developed then. But in terms of physical vigor and strength, I suspect Ayanna is quite a bit stronger and quicker than HJ is even now. Can she develop the offensive skills at Storrs? I am optimistic.

I think that Paige will find a way to help Ayanna become a scorer.
They're going to need time to develop some chemistry together to help Ayanna develop some confidence as a scorer.
It could take a while for Ayanna to get used to being tightly defended, and to develop the moves she needs to be an effective and reliable scorer.
It will happen but it's mostly a matter of when.
Against the BE teams it will be easier for her, but against the top teams there will probably be a learning curve.
We'll probably know more about what she can be expected to do about 1/2 way through the season.
Such as whether she will become much of a ball handler & shooter this year, or be expected to be a rebounder and work more under the basket like an improved version of Piath that can elevate all of the way up to the rim.
Maybe Paige & Ayanna can develop an alley oop pass?

agreed...........Jones was far more polished offensively as an incoming freshman although her three point shot is still a work in progress........AP is far more athletic, probably the most athletic player on the team since Gabby Williams and certainly a better shot blocker, rebounder and defender tha HJ...........if she really develops her offensive skills she could eventually be in the running for All American honors......

Remember people, you too can do what Hamilton does. All you have to do is start a YouTube channel. Take what he post as entertainment only. We all are experts. Oh and @sun the teams offense and coaching will help her scoring.

I admire that Hamilton is at least trying. He's getting things "in the can" in film lingo. For a young guy who appears to be trying to be a sports reporter, he's well on his way. I have a lot of suggestions for him. Get a green screen. Get more actual video and photos. Do a better job of editing and proofing his work. He can get there but he could improve a lot with just a little effort.

Yanna is easy to root for. Who among us would love to back and play with the knowledge we have now. She seems receptive to training. She should be a sponge because she's never gotten training like she's going to get now. She should watch Paige's workout routines on her handle, on specific moves, on developing her left hand...etc. And repeat it 20,000 times.

I admire him, too. I suspect he dropped his old format with the music and the photos because of rights issues. I'm guessing he's between formats currently.

Jones will be on the short list for POY next season so even a resemblance is complimentary for an incoming freshman. I certain that her highlights will outnumber her lowlights.
Patterson has really quick feet for 6'3 and should be very effective rolling to the hoop and taking passes for easy hoops. Players her size can't stay with her and she'd embarrass a smaller guard inside.

If only UConn had some skilled passers.

When I think of what Ayanna might do this season, I mainly imagine what Victaria Saxton and Leticia Amihere are going to be faced with in a match up against Aaliyah and Ayanna. UConn will be one of the few opponents they’ll face who can outmuscle them at the 4. Sure, Ayanna will be green in the first matchup. But by the third time they meet, I suspect it will be a very different story.

While I don’t take everything he says as gospel, I really admire what he is doing. He is building a brand and even if most of his info is not self-generated, I welcome his videos as it relieves me of the necessity of looking up the info with my pathetic computer skills. Furthermore, I believe his videos are getting better, both in viewing quality and in content as well. I predict five years from now his videos will consist of far more self generated content and will likely be featuring his own research and interviews that he himself conducts. He’s doing a fine job and I wish him all the best!

Solid takes. I am just as excited to see the new players, especially Ms Patterson, on the court and seeing what they can do and how they deal with all of the dynamics that happen with college ball.

Third matchup with Saxton? Do you know something about this year’s schedule that I don’t?

That makes 2.
I guess it's still possible that we could both wind up in the same pre-conference season tournament (like last year), but I haven't heard anything about any such tournament plans for us.

Are y'all committed to any pre-conference season tournaments at this time?

Yes. UConn is playing in the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend with Duke, Iowa & Oregon St. So there is no possibility that the Huskies and the Gamecocks meet more than twice this coming season.

I would think she'd develop any skill Geno needs. Skill development depend on: physical abilities, determination, motivation and being pushed. Some kids just can't be pushed they arrive at their own speed. I like this kid. She will be all she can be at storrs. I think she will come under Ms Dailey's directions as a post, nothing in basketball is better than CD nurturing.

This past year we saw the rarest of Basketball at Uconn 2 Freshmen leading the way. When Geno has the options he brings them along slowly, unless like Paige, Fudd, Cariline, Maya, DT, Sue they are extraordinary--then they do their thing. This year they did well.
Suspect AP as needed as she is in the post may see many minutes (I hope). Ameri, I listed to Geno's assessment of player's readiness--and he gave Ameri a low score. She's a sometimes player--sometimes good some time not.

While CD used to spend a lot of time working with UConn’s posts, I think much of that responsibility now lies with Jamelle who’s ability to impart a certain “toughness” to the players she coaches will undoubtedly pay dividends for a kid like Ayanna who is already a physical player to start with.
