Getting off of the threads dealing with refs and C Creme and thinking about more positive things, like our potential depth next year (minus injuries and any unknown losses), if we can have the 14 players we hope to have, good luck to other schools. However, in thinking about that group of 14 it hit me that we will still have quite a bit of inexperience, even though they will all be skilled.

I know we can spend hours debating next years' starting five so no intent to get into that, but looking at the inexperience factor I liked what I saw with this new group.
Five of the 14 will never have played in a UCONN game and those 5 also happen to make up a complete starting five. KK and Ash at the PG and SG spots, Q at the SF, Ice at the PF and Jana at the post. Lots of unknowns, but also lots of promise. If they are all what we expect, I think it would be fun to watch Geno start them in the 2nd or 3rd quarters of an exh. game next year as a DePaul type en masse substitution. They might be a top 40-50 quality quintet.

Let’s just weight and see how many healthy bodies we have next year before we start this again. Currently Paige, Azzi, and Caroline can’t stay healthy and stay on the court. I am not overly confident that any of them will be able to make it through the full season next year.

My focus is on the next three games, the B E tournament, and the NCAA tournament.
Will we see UCONN Vs Villanova in the final of the BE tournament.? Now that would be
exciting!
I could speculate about an exhibition game, a fun mind experiment.... but.... I'll enjoy it when it happens!

There is so much ball to be played yet this season, why would one already be worrying about next season? The next exhibition of UConn women's basketball is Tuseday vs St. Johns @ 7 p.m. (SNY)
No attack at the OP, great post season topic. :)

Sorry, but as I wrote in my OP I was tired of reading all the post game back and forth. My job requires me to look forward and anticipate, not dwell on what has already happened. This board is supposed to be fun and my view of the UCONN future seems promise loads of fun

How about this for summer exhibition games? A grand tour of Azores, Croatia, Egypt, and then back home to Canada (sort of). Think that might help with recruiting overseas?

I don't think we will see much of the inexperienced 5 as a unit, and only two are likely to be rotation players IMO. We may have 5 first year players, but we have quality and experience at 4 positions. The inexperience of KK, Ash and Q is not a big issue because if healthy we have 5 top options for positions 1-3. If Aubrey doesn't return we might need limited minutes from one of those three, but on paper if healthy they are emergency use players, kind of like Ines's role this year, but far more talented.

Upfront it is entirely different. Thye 5 position has no proven experienced players. Although Ice and Jana might both be considered 4/5 type players on next year's team we need them at the 5. Between Ice, Jana and maybe Amari we need to cover the 5 minutes. I expect the first two to be good enough to be above average 5's from the get go, but we can't expect them to be anywhere close to as good as they will be by their junior or senior seasons. As the roster stands now there will be tremendous pressure on our new bigs, and with 4 out of 5 positions stacked, our only interest in the portal should first be a 5, second an experienced proven 5, and perhaps a grad transfer. If that type of player for a one year rental is not available we ride with the newcomers.

Maybe we should play a lot more exhibition-type games next year. You know, design a Mulkey schedule. I mean, does it really make a difference if our OOC schedule is challenging? LSU is still in the running for a 1 seed, after all. The lesson of this season might just be schedule as many creampuffs as possible. The NET doesn’t seem to care. Plus, our players can burnish their stats with lots of empty numbers. Double-doubles up and down the roster.

Always thought it would be cool to have an exhibition game against alumni. Open to fans, proceeds going to charity. No clue if that’s even allowed under NCAA rules, but you can field at least 12 active alumni from the WNBA. Sue Bird could be the coach.

Inspired by the exhibitions against the US National team. Those were always very fun to watch.

I believe that in a recent post-game press conference Geno made a passing reference to a team trip this summer. He didn't say where or when, but they are overdue for a trip abroad.
IIRC, Geno mentioned "August trip". I think some of us are assuming/hoping for a preseason trip. They haven't done one in awhile.

The NCAA has a rule about the frequency of preseason trips (once every 7 years?), and Geno has said he tries to schedule them when he has a veteran team. There is also a NCAA rule allowing a week or two of organized practice prior to the trip that can be an advantage to the team.

The problem with putting all the newbies on the floor at the same time is the structure of play almost always disintegrates. Keeping a few of the experienced players on the floor helps keep the structure and provides a better learning experience.
