We wish that era of mediocrity could have lasted longer....

Mike Farrell@rivalsmike
#BC athletic director Gene DeFillippo retiring. Man who brought BC to the ACC.

note to self.... self, why don't you make more descriptive thread titles so people stop making four other threads about the same topic...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, the next thing you know, they're going to say that Spaz is retiring, too. What good times those two have provided UConn fans!

End of an ERROR more like it. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out pal.

There have also been rumblings around here for a while that President Leahy's retirement could be coming soon as well, he's been there forever.

Now what are the denizons of 'Nut Hill going to bitch & moan about? That cesspool of neurotics have been clamoring for this for months. Eagle Outsider must have hits through the roof today.

I read that as "Man... Who brought BC to the ACC?!"

Can we convince them that Jeff Hathaway is the right guy for the job?! Maybe we could even pay a portion of his salary for them?!;)

The man was a pioneer. He was forward-thinking, and very well respected in the community (the community being his 10x10 office).
No other AD could take a decent athletic department 10 years ago, move it to a conference where no other members were within 800 miles, run off halfway decent coaches with the precision usually seen only in Olympic coach-running (that's a sport... right ???), take the 2 major revenue producing sports and promptly relegate them to the toilet, and make sure the stadiums were no more than 1/4 full on their best days.
He will be sorely missed. We salute you, you prince among men.
Thank you for all the work you have done to make UCONN football the best in New England !!!

We don't need another guy in that job who has an ax to grind against Uconn.

I thought Donna Shalala was the man who brought BC to the ACC.

Shalala was the man LOL. BCU tagged along for the ride. Good riddance. Let's hope BCU will replace him with someone who is similar caliber so their mediocrity will continue.

is he getting out before uconn gets the invite. the not on my watch thing?

I wonder that as well, not that I want an invite just now.

At this point I couldn't care less about an ACC invite. That league is a couple of years from blowing up anyway, and it will be ugly. We'll eventually play BC, just don't know when. Obviously Gene Di was given the option of "gracefully" taking a lesser position with a nice payday or being shown the door. Easy choice for him.

Noticed that he turned BC into a juggernaut in sailing, which most of their students can't do anyway, while turning football and basketball into mush.

BC wants to be like Stanford or ND, but they aren't, and are learning that the hard way. So where do they put the statue?

Well .... maybe BC will regain it's senses now and rejoin the Big East. Temple, Rutgers and UConn are a heck of a lot closer than Clemson, Wake Forest and Puke. Then we get Syracuse and Pitt to pull a TCU on the ACC and everything will be right with the world :)
