SAN DIEGO -- The American Athletic Conference is losing one of its most respected staff members, as senior associate commissioner for football and marketing, Nick Carparelli Jr., is leaving for a job with Under Armour.
Carparelli served as the head of football for the Big East and American Athletic Conference for nearly 12 years, leading the league's football programs through two major realignment overhauls.

Good guy, and hopefully an amicable separation, because having big time contacts, in company's like that, is a big time thing for athletic conferences.......

We'll get an idea about what kind of pull that Mike Aresco and AAC conference really has, by the candidate pool, and replacement that gets hired.

Will Carparelli use his contacts in the AAC & the Catholics to get sweetheart deals for all schools involved. We know that it's the hope for UA, but, would he be able to pull off prying away the affected schools from their existing contracts with Nike et.al.

I think our Nike deal which expires in 2018 is significantly larger than the UnderArmour deal that Maryland just signed. Of course, Notre Dame just signed with UA for about twice our deal - $90M.

(The numbers always involve a cash and product mix - UConn's cash from the $46M deal is $13M. Notre Dame being Notre Dame has a deal that gives them product and cash or stock in UA. It's good to be the king, I guess.)

By way of comparison, USF's six year extension with UA is for about $12.5M. It replaces a five-year deal that paid $2.8M.
