UConn vs N.D..jpg

UConn’s amazing performance in the Notre Dame game was highlighted by some incredible individual & team statistics. For the season, the Huskies also have some interesting stats:

1. Morgan Tuck scored a layup 13 seconds into the N.D. game. She also hit a 3 pt shot w/ 2:44 left to play. In between she scored 20 more pts on 11-15 shooting (73.3%) from inside the 3 pt arc. At some point Notre Dame might have thought to cover her more closely.

2. Kiah Stokes outrebounded the entire starting Notre Dame five, 18-17. Those five had 16 turnovers and 4 blocked shots. Kiah had 2 turnovers and also blocked 4 shots. (It was actually more…) The N.D. five played 147 total minutes, Kiah just 24 minutes. Efficient & effective..! :)

3. UConn committed 18 personal fouls, but only 2 N.D. players attempted free throws. Jewel Loyd had 9 of those 11 attempts. N.D. also had 18 fouls, but 5 Huskies went to the free throw line.

4. Stewie missed 9 shots from the field, but made 9 free throws and had 9 rebounds. She played 38 minutes and had 2 assists, 2 fouls & 2 turnovers or one of each every nineteen minutes. Notre Dame had the lead in the game for 9 minutes and the attendance was nine thousand one hundred and nineteen. Oh, and KML was 5 for 9 from the field & Tuck was 12-19 overall & had 9 rebounds. Both teams had 9 steals.

5. Notre Dame scored 28 pts in the first 10 minutes & only 30 points in the last 30 minutes. (Without a layup at the final buzzer, N.D. would have only scored 28.) Jewel Loyd started 5-5 from the field, then went 5-22 or 22.7%. UConn had 18 pts in 10 minutes and then scored 58 the rest of the game.

6. For the season, Kiah is 11-12 or 91.7% from the free throw line. Kia, on the other hand, is 15-28 for 53.6%. Kaleena is 6-6 for 100%. The team has made 94 free throws, but missed 43. :(

7. KML leads the team in steals at 15, made 3 pointers with 26 & minutes per game at 32.5 in 6 games. She is 2nd in points w/ 102 (Stewie leads w/ 115), but her 6 game average is higher at 17.0 per game. She has made 59.1% of her 3 pt attempts (26-44) and all 6 free throws.

8. Kia Nurse has played 186 minutes (3rd most), scored 94 pts, grabbed 32 rebounds, dished out 20 assists & stolen the ball 10 times. Her 12 turnovers are lowest of the five main starters. She is shooting 72.2% from inside the 3 pt line & a very respectable 43% from outside the arc. Her 25 defensive rebounds are more than KML, Tuck & Gabby and equal to MoJeff & Chong combined. She is the only UConn player who knows the metric system.

9. UConn is still averaging 89.3 points per game, even after games with top 3 teams Stanford & Notre Dame. They play 18 of their next 23 games against opponents from the AAC. Maybe get that average up over 90….

10. The Huskies win against Notre Dame in their sold out arena, ended their 34 game home winning streak, was on ESPN (not ESPN2, ESPNU or “The Ocho”), on a prime time Saturday, in front of many alumni & prospects, including Lauren Cox. Ouch, that has to really, really smart….:p

Go Huskies..!!

and speaking of 9..CD Marisa and Shea were dressed to the 9's..or am I telling my age with that old tyme reference?
We think alike, but you are quicker.:)

I don't understand why that was David's 4th point, though. Clearly it should have been point #9.

Nice work, David! You are always informative, while also being entertaining.

Don't remind me, I'm still in a pissing contest with Comcast for not carrying The Ocho.

Re: Stokes' blocked shots... Somebody needs to start counting altered shots, because she had a number of them in the ND game. She reminded me of Emeka Okafor.
add in the U-turns on players driving the lane and seeing Kiah, quickly leaving!
