2025 Recruiting: Amarri Monroe: UConn in final 6

He shot 35% from 3 last season on lower usage. Highlights show a lot of 3’s off the dribble this past season at a very low efficiency. Presumably he would be taking much more high percentage shots as a secondary piece of the UConn offense.
Was about to point this out as well 35% on about 3 attempts per game is solid

I'd like to think we're recruiting this kid for the versatility of backing up the 3/4. I'd be nervous if he's starting for us personally.
At Uconn level we should be recruiting better proven players. We're coming off 2 national championships we should be able to get a good big to replace Johnson.

The 3 wouldn’t play to his rebounding strengths but otherwise agreed, I’d think if AK goes pro then Stew and Mullins are the starting Fs with Monroe and Ross the primary backups.

Not sure about this guy- see below on his numbers verse better competition last 2 years- obviously small sample size- overall numbers show he isn’t a very efficient shooter & not sure if he will be able to rebound at that clip in the Power 5;

@ St. John’s- 4 Points 6 REB 0/9 FG 0/5 3PT 2024

@ Saint Louis- 4 Points 8 REB 2/11 FG 0/4 3PT 2024

@ Yale- 23 Points 5 REB 9/22 FG 1/9 3PT 2024

vs Hofstra- 20 Points 11 REB 6/23 FG 2/7 3PT 2024

@ Mass- 13 Points 3 REB 5/6 FG 2/2 3PT 2023

Vs Yale- 6 Points 4 REB 2/5 FG 2/4 3PT 2023

@ Florida- 8 Points 4 REB 3/8 FG 0/4 3PT 2023

Also shooting overall @ 40.5% & 27.3% at Quinnipiac is kind of scary, if he can’t be efficient in that league as a 6 foot 7 wing- not sure how he will make out verse better competition & athletes
This is not a strong indicator. He was their best player who got extra defense treatment against some very good teams. At UConn he would not have to be the best. His rebounding was still impressive if taken thru the lens of who he had to battle with?

Huh? Do you mean big enough to play the 4? He’s definitely a PF. 6’7 220 is bigger than Stew and he averaged over 9rpg which was top 25 in the nation lol.
He's talking about Mullins, not Monroe.

He said Mullins not Monroe. Braylon Mullins is obviously a lot closer to the Hawkins, ideal 2-guard archetype, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see matchups where Mullins plays the 3. Especially if he’s scorching from deep and Dan Hurley & Co want to see Braylon and Solo spreading the floor together.

Yeah I like the idea of Monroe in a bench role bringing toughness, rebounding, and defense. Although, I imagine his shooting efficiency would go up with UConn alongside much better talent.

Those are some pretty bad stat lines especially against Yale and St. John's.

Even if Mullins isn’t starting at the 3 I guarantee he’s getting at least half his PT there because there’s only gonna be ~10 mpg available as backup SG behind Solo

Chance Ball plays 3-5 mins at the PG position.

And Demary had two assists and 10 turnovers against St. John’s. So looks like we arent exactly targeting St. John’s killers in the portal.

Wise. They’ll have a new team anyway.

Yeah but Demary did play very well in the SEC especially at the end of the year. Not something Monroe did. Quinnipiace really played a horrible schedule. Don't these small Universities normally play a bunch of top majors at the beginning of the year? I guess not as much as years before.

Respectfully, pass. Looks good. We don’t need good. We need “special” in some way that makes us separate from good. There are lots of good.

If he wants to backup at the 3/4 I'm all for him coming in but not sold as him as a starter. I would like a better shooter.

My thoughts exactly

While 41/27 isn't exactly good shooting against poor competition, he did shoot 47/35 the prior year on much less volume. The kid can clearly rebound. This might be more of a Timberlake backup role, with the potential to gain significant minutes.

Any comp to Tyrese? Looks like about the same size and build.

I have a tough time making any assumptions based on 10 minute highlight reels because I could make a mix tape in my driveway and look like a stud.

Don’t see the need now that we got Silas. Those should be Adams’ 10 mins as backup PG , because PT at SG is gonna be even harder to come by between Ball and Mullins

Respectfully, they’re putting together a puzzle, not an All-Star team. Self tried the All Star team thing. Everyone said he crushed the portal right up until his team stunk.
Oh, I agree. I used special for that reason. If need an athletic freak, go get it. We don’t need 5 AAs. We need a composition of exceptional skills. Getting 5 pretty good all-around players isn’t as good as getting 2 great players and 3 guys with exceptional skills that fill in the puzzle.

Rick Pitino press. Everyone in our league has to deal with it. I think it was 2014 (we won the NCAA) but Louisville be us three times with that danged press. It cannot be ignored but needs to be practiced against.
