Thank you for some level headed response.
I'm fearful that if we don't beat Towson by a larger margin than umass, this board will go into meltdown mode...
And I think there are a lot hoping for it.

You imply that the original assertion was something less than level-headed. It's was a fair point considering this team has shown much less spark under this coach.

it's a new year... last I checked Uconn is 0-0. what is the point of
parsing out responses from players in a poorly written article to suggest they're not excited? this constant tirade of looking for things to complain about is old and tired. it's biased and backed by an agenda to see coach PP fired. the exact opposite of a level-headed response.

A Bowl or bust!! If P can't get them to a bowl this year he needs to go. I think he can. I think he will. If you want to see the Rent packed then they simply have to go on a winning streak from day one that carries them past the half way mark in the season. That puts fannies in seats. You want a large contingent of UCONN faithful at a bowl game then win all your games, get ranked decently and go into a bowl game fighting for a top 10 final ranking. Winning is the only thing that solves all the problems around here. Winning pays the expenses, winning gets you invited to B1G-ger and better places, winning will even clean out most of the doldrums in the Boneyard.

I agree for the most part. But going 6-6 and backing into a bowl isn't going to get any momentum or support for the program or PP. I think there will be more to measuring this season than just the record.
I think the bar is set on 1 big win (Michigan or L'ville), and another win against either Rutgers, Cincy, and Maryland... That will be more indicative of where PP has this program going. Uconn gets 3 wins of that bunch, PP is well on his way to year 4. But, they still need to take care of the other games as well of which there are some good teams (USF and UCF being two of them)... Bottom line,
I think if uconn gets 2 wins out of the big 5 games, they need to go 5-2 for the other games.

What makes ignoring everything you've seen and heard to date "level-headed"? That's actually closer to insanity. And there is no "agenda to see coach PP fired." Reasonable people would like to see this program get out of the death spiral it's in.

If you think we are in a "Death Spiral" you are not reasonable, you are however miserable and annoying.

Kragthorpe was a death spiral, this is just bad coaching, of the type that new OC & DC can go long way towards fixing.

Ten years ago, would we be celebrating the newly announced away game with Army? Yet here we are.

Anyone who was crying for a downstate game at the Yale Bowl should be pleased at the Army announcement for.two reasons:

1. It puts UConn in NYC with increased exposure to Fairfield County. Something everyone dinged the previous AD for not doing.

2. It's under Army's deal with Yankee Stadium, which means they picked us because the perception that we can sell tickets in NYC. Something everyone has been claiming. Now we have a chance to prove it.

Sell the mthafker out.

Funny. 10 years ago, Army was on the schedule, and had the game been scheduled for Yankee Stadium, instead of upstate, it would have been even bigger news than it is now.

Not exactly true. Boston College was originally slated for the spot we are taking and probably backed out b/c of the new ACC schedule, and their arrangements needing to play Syracuse in November. (Guessing there as to why BC no longer involved - not a guess that BC was originally scheduled).

I'm not so sure that Army really prefers playing us there, we are a totally unproven commodity right now in the college football marketplace.

At least with Boston College, Army knows they can beat them - now. We've been ahead of Army for a while now on the field.

Talk about trying to put lipstick on a pig. They "picked" us because BC bailed and we were available. The fact that we were available on relatively short notice is sad.

It's funny, because right now, moving forward, is the time when the AD should be interested in looking at future schedules for strength (i.e. BCS-AQ conference opponents). The fact that we were able to move on this game, is the product of Hathaway's scheduling, not Manuel's. The fact that Manuel hasn't scheduled any teams from BCS-AQ conferences yet, is small potatoes, compared to the fact that our 2014 an 2015 schedules were completely empty as recently as a few months ago, but now feature some interesting match ups.

While we have yet to schedule a BCS-AQ program since Manuel got on the job, there's no reason to think that we won't, or that it won't be good, once it happens, on the contrary, based on what's been done, in the scramble for scheduling that he walked into, I think it's promising.

I'm personally looking forward to a Boston College announcement. I hope it happens.

The vast majority of rational UConn fans I'm sure feel the same way. I'm guessing 2017. From what I have been told, the worst is over as far as our relationship with Chestnut Hill is concerned. The ACC is still not set on exactly how the 5 ND games will work each year. From what I hear a rotation should be firm within the next 3 months and after that ACC teams can firm up post 2015-2016 OOC schedules.

I don't want a bunch of "our aim of course is to win BE (opps) AAC and go to BCS bowl". Last 2 years not good enough, go to bowl game is legit aim. There are 10 teams now in ACC so being 1 of 2 or 3 tied at 5-2 isn't going to work as in past so beating 8 (don't play Houston) other teams to win AAC and go to BCS is not the "success" goal for this team but the "all teams want to" goal.
I like a quiet confidence rather than big talk, think guys are showing that, good enough for me. Play smart and make the other teams sore/weary after playing UConn (like Cinncy was a few years back when we played them) and wins and good bowl game will come.

I disagree. The UCONN football team should be like Michigan and set lofty goals every year. Brady Hoke, after beating Virginia Tech in a BCS bowl a couple of years ago, said while they made great progress they only met one of three goals they set every year: 1) Beat Ohio State, 2) Win Big 10 Conference Title, 3) Win Bowl Game. Our goals every year should be the same with the exception of #1; I would replace with winning all of our home games. A legit aim is not a 6-6 record and playing tough. Does anyone expect to accomplish all three goals every year? Of course not, but that should be the goal and expectation going into any season. The goal is to get an A not a C+ or B-.
