Fans never hate their opponent's worst players, so they probably need to be really good to qualify.

Could a list be considered legit without Christian Laettner at the top?

Forgetting that we love Dan, Bobby Hurley also makes the list, but I've convinced myself he was adopted. :)

I'll need help beyond this point because after years of therapy, I'm not as much of a hater as I used to be. However, I think there have to be some former Cuse and Pitt players who qualify.

My five would be Laettner, Alonzo Mourning, Ron Artest, Charles Mineland and probably DeJuan Blair. With Blair, it wasn't so much his personality, but the way he just bullied and handled Thabeet on the court.
Still wild how much people celebrated Blair grabbing Thabeet’s arm and judo flipping him. That would have gotten him tossed and possibly suspended in today’s game.

.-.
I could list a bunch, but two that came immediately to mind:
Gerry McNamara
Peyton Siva

Why Peyton Siva? Yes he ran rings around our guards, but he seemed like a pretty good kid overall. What am I missing?

Pitt was always a bunch of thugs, in my mind.

No reason to reinvent the wheel. Nothing personal, but I truly hate threads about hate. This thread will be locked in a couple hours.

great list of players mentioned, hate them all, but Preston Shubert is at the top of my list

We tried to make him the number 1 overall pick and put him in the basketball HOF

Can we talk about your all time UConn starting five instead?

Yes. Ray Allen, Okafor, and probably three guys from the last two years. I don't remember many players from 2000 to 2014. I was drunk most of that time.

I hated Colin Gillespie until he came up short when Kimani Young closed out the Nova win with Dan Hurley ejected from the game.

But after we got Cam last year, Gillespie bothered a lot less, to the point of not even caring and even respecting that he was (allowed to be) quite effective, and thereby accomplished much.

I quickly recognized - with ease - that Cam Spencer was OUR guy, the one who OTHER teams could (or had to) hate, and he became a beloved legend.

Spencer was a quintessential, "Hasn't he graduated yet?" guy who played only one season on our team and conference... an instant classic.

Someone needs to explain to me the hatred towards Ewing. I've met him twice, and he was nothing short of a soft-spoken giant.

Laettner, Allen, Redick - all Duke basketball punks!

Watch the 92 UK - Duke game, how does Laettner not get tossed for intentionally stepping on a player. If it's any other game, the UK boys would kick his ass.

Very satisfying that we beat a lot of these guys.

I think this is more of a compliment to him than anything, but Kalkbrenner is rising on my list.
For the life of me, I don’t understand how he’s not considered a first round pick. How’s an excellent defender who does t foul not worth a pick for a contender looking for a nice bench piece?

I recall him saying some things about how UConn hadn’t beaten them until a game in the 22-23 season. I could get behind some dislike there, but not quite hate. I wouldn’t be happy to see Rod Sellers elbow his head into the court.

Chevon Troutman
Preston Shumpert
Eric Devendorf
Drew Timme
Jerome Williams

Im going to regret disclosing this, but I never hated Christian Laettner. I enjoyed watching him play college hoops. I liked the swagger and the trolling even though it wasnt called trolling back then. But then I always rooted for the heels in pro wrestling too. Laettner in his time was the closest thing to a pro wrestling Ric Flair like heel that sports had and I thought it was awesome.

Players I hated:
Chris Taft
Eric Murdock
Preston Shumpert
Boubacar Aw
Colin Gillespie

.-.
The Villanova player that was from Connecticut
Seems like a gratuitous shot at Harold Pressley -- but if "love is love" then I guess "hate is hate?" That doesn't seem right.

Laettner was the perfect heel. He was so goshdarn good that people irrationally hated him and he relished it. He was an incredible player, he was handsome, and he was confident. The hatred was so wild that people made up he was a silver spoon kid and went after his sexuality. The haters created a pretty boy in their heads when nothing about him was like that, people did that with Jake Voskuhl too but he was nowhere near the national figure Laettner was. There was nothing pretty boy about either of them, two of the toughest guys you'll see on the court.

The type of Duke player I hated was Wojo because all the hype and accolades never matched his actual game. The floor slapping was also stupid.

I have a lot. But Eric Devendorf, Victor Paige, Karl Krauser, and Chris Thomas are high on my list.
