On WTIC radio news this morning, Bill Pearce reported that USA Basketball defeated the WNBA All-Stars 102-98. I heard it twice. Where the heck did that come from? Can the media be trusted to get anything right these days?

In 2010, and in 2004, that was the format of the game. Someone must have grabbed the old copy probably from 2010, and just updated the score. (In answer to your question, generally, no)

Sounds possible, but then how did they decide which team had the 102 points?

I read an internet article about the top twenty sports rivalries that stated UCONN had not played Tenn since 1994. So, with the exception of the BY, I take everything I read with a grain of salt.

-Our media professionals? I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation.
-Lets see. Did their reporter also mention if the Morlocks lost again?
