Both guys could have kept what they had an been content. But they both decided to roll the dice and use arguably their biggest trade chips to fill major holes in their organizations. This is an old-school trade, and I think both sides will end up being very happy with what they get.
Jack Z: Ended up getting Smoak AND Montero in the end. Funny how things work out sometimes. They have 3 great pieces to anchor their lineup for a long time.
Cashman: Waited. Waited, waited, waited. Watched Gio & Latos get traded for more. Pineda & Kuroda deals both done in the span of 5 hours. This was like a NAVY SEAL incursion. Tremendous.
And they say no big news ever happens after 5 PM on a Friday.
