Seemed in his head last year. Hopefully the pressure is offWatching him last year, it seemed like he felt so much pressure to lead UConn to another title. I hope he can enjoy this year and just be the great player he is and be the leader he is and whatever results come will be great. No matter what happens, he is an all-timer.
I think there a few things that are big differences. First, he's had a year to get used to his role as a leader and the extra attention that he's going to get from opposing teams. Secondly, I think the pressure is off him in some ways. Solo is probably our first option. Mullins looks to have a terrific shot. Reed, is a great option in the paint. I just feel like his role is more consistent with his abilities this year. There's less of a need for him to be jacking up three pointers 2 feet behind the arc. Alex is a good score within the flow of the game. I don't know that he was ever comfortable having to create his own opportunities as this shot clock died down.Seemed in his head last year. A true leader who will be an ambassador to the program for years to come. He’s the only 4 year team player on the roster and a 4 year starter to boot. For my money the most attached to the Husky program of any player in our history. You'd think there may be a better answer.... but there ain't.
Love this dude as if I know him.
I'd guess Josh Carlton. But not sure if he started freshman year.A true leader who will be an ambassador to the program for years to come. He’s the only 4 year team player on the roster and a 4 year starter to boot.
Solo will take some of the pressure off of him but I still expect him to match or exceed his numbers from last year along with playing 30-35 mpg. With the high caliber of OOC games and the BE battles, Hurley will be going with the battle tested veteran.
Anyone know who our last 4 year starter was ?
I'd guess Josh Carlton. But not sure if he started freshman year.
He transferred. And I don’t think he started freshman year and Adama took over as starter before he left UConnI'd guess Josh Carlton. But not sure if he started freshman year.
It's probably Jalen but it could go back even further. I don't know. 2015-21 are weird years for this team.He transferred. And I don’t think he started freshman year and Adama took over as starter before he left UConn
Went to the NBA after his junior year.Josh Boone?
That's a tricky one. He didn't start for half the games in 2014, including the beginning of the season and the NCAA tournament. Overall 17 of 40 games started. And then he didn't start for some of the games in 2016 recovering from injury, including the American/NCAA tournament.Amida Brimah
Started only 11 of 36 games, and they were randomly distributed throughout. Purvis, Calhoun, and Adams all started various games.Jalen Adams too maybe, but don’t think he started as many games as a freshman as AK did.
Best comparison is Kevin Freeman, though stats show freeman started only 19 games his freshman year.Started only 11 of 36 games, and they were randomly distributed throughout. Purvis, Calhoun, and Adams all started various games.
I never would have thought of this because their strengths were pretty different. Freeman much better inside, Alex a much better shooter. But they were both undersized but effective as the 4, and both had trouble trying to play 3. And they both were the glue guy, emotional leader of their teams. I think this is a valid comparison in many regards.Best comparison is Kevin Freeman, though stats show freeman started only 19 games his freshman year.
But in terms of temperamentally and spiritually embodying the program, i think the two are closest.
Everyone mentions his concussion from the Dayton game and that it affected the rest of his season. And believe me, he hit his head hard on that floor-I was there to see it and remembering it still makes me cringe. But I don't think his concussion affected the rest of his season, because he had some really good shooting games after that.AK looks quicker in this video than he did at the end of last year. I think he was physically worn out by the end of the year and was struggling to get open looks because of it. If he can get his conditioning to an elite level, he'll be so much better this year. He's never going to be the quickest guy on the court, but he just wasn't 100% physically for most of last season.
He didn’t start his freshman year.Shabazz?
