This weekend, I was privileged to attend the Memorial Service for alexrgct, and represent the Boneyard, yes I realize that I only average 50 posts a year. Alex was diagnosed with a terminal form of brain cancer three and a half years ago and given only one year to live. Much like this year’s UConn team, Alex defied the odds and proved heart and effort can overcome almost anything. The service was beautiful and a true celebration of Alex and his life. Alex’s dad did a wonderful job describing how Alex filled a lifetime of living into his few years. He went on to describe how Alex focused on many passions with the two main ones of his life, his two beautiful children and his love of UConn women’s basketball. I spoke after Alex’s dad and mentioned the fun times I spent with Alex, meeting at games and reading his insightful posts on the Boneyard. The Boneyard has always meant so much to me and it was a great source of enjoyment and comfort to Alex during his very difficult last three years. I even took my turn going up in front of everyone and told them of the wonderful memorable times Alex and I shared. Kibitzer wrote a wonderful letter that I read to everyone. It was full of praise for Alex’s enthusiasm for the team and for the Boneyard, including his pinch hitting for Kibby on the Badass Award for several games. Several other Boneyard members were there as well, including Husky1964 and NotABaller.

Alex will be missed, but the Boneyard will go on. With help I was able to put together a list of Boneyarders who have passed on and are no longer with us. That list includes:

HuskyBill (Bill Dunn)

Olde Coach (Warren Witherell)

Big Ed (Ed Michel)

Lasert (Robert Chaffee)

Ruffian, also known as Slewbopper and several other handles

Jimmy Skunk (Richard Gregoire)

Speedoo (Al Ferlazzo)

RobtNAlt

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who makes the Boneyard the place that it is & the place that gave Alex so much enjoyment and a break from his medical issues. From the moderators, who do a thankless job wonderfully, to the regular posters who bring insight to every issue, to the lurkers who come just to read, and also the non-UConn fans who love their team, but still show great appreciation for our Huskies. A big thank you, not just from me, but from Alex and his family as well.

Attached are some pictures of Alex and from his Memorial to honor his memory. Rest in Peace, Alex.

Thanks, Danny! I would have gone, but I'm about 2,000 miles away now.

I started the thread on Alex's passing and posted on Facebook for his family to see. I would have loved to be there and to have been in touch with Alex more during his last few weeks.

Alex and I shared several emails and texts, about both the Huskies and some personal info. He was a good man whom I miss.
