Alex Karaban is Freshmen of the week

Congrats to Alex Karaban who is Big East Freshmen of the Week. Adama Sanogo made the Big East Honor Roll. Congrats Alex and Adama. Keep it up. Go UConn
Post/handle?

He needs to be freshman of the year.
It's going to be tight with Whitmore. Whitmore averaging 2.5 more points and more rebounds a game on decent shooting. Karaban less on better shooting.

Just one of those things, but I don't think Karaban will win it if he averages less than 10 points per game and Whitmore more than 10. Plus Whitemore has the hype advantage.

He will be. The kid has a brain like sponge humbleness and top flight work ethics to boot.

With Hurley trust in him playing lots of minutes, he is only going upward!

I think it will go to Whitmore, but Alex SHOULD get it.

Alex has played every game, has 3x as many assists (1.8 vs 0.6), and half the # of TOs (1.0 vs 2:0) . Better 2pt% (59% vs 54%) , better 3pt% (38% vs 36%), better FT% (82% vs 71%). In about the same minutes per game.

Whitmore has more points (9.7 vs. 12.3), and rebounds (4.1 vs 5.4), and is a better defender (1.5 steals vs 0.5).

I would understand why they'd give it to Whitmore because of the draft hype and higher scoring #s, but Karaban has had a bigger impact on the court by far IMO.

Think they might use conference-only stats for these awards, but not sure (the Ben Hansbrough flashback makes me think so). Not much different, but Whitmore is shooting 40% from 3 in conference play.

How much do you think it helped that he was here for an extra 6 months to learn the system and practice against D1 players. Perfect example for Hurley and co moving forward when recruiting guys.

Karaban has been Freshman of the Week 5 times now. How many times has Whitmore done that? There's still a month left in the season so we'll see what happens but seems to be a no brainer at this point.

Alex is the fourth scoring option of our starting 5 too

I know Cam has at least 2 - doesn't seem to a spot with the "honor roll" to review though?

I'm certainly on the AK bus, I've only seen Cam play in the game vs the Huskies and I wasn't all that impressed. One game isn't enough to make a real judgement though and I know his #s have been good. He's got the hype for sure.

Karaban has to be front runner for FOTY with 5 FOTW awards this season. Most any other player has so far is 2. If Whitmore is going to win this award, he needs to close that gap.
Is Whitmore going to be eligible? Will he play enough games to qualify?
Remember what they did to Bouknight.
