Karaban did a youth basketball camp yesterday at the hometown high school. Probably not as interesting to everyone else as it is to me because I know all these people they have quotes from.

“He has put such an excitement in the community, a lot of kids forget that he only played one year here,” Doherty said. “Of course I would’ve loved him to come back, I had to actually tell him, ‘You gotta go. You need to play bigger, stronger kids.’ He agreed. But throughout the years he’s stayed exactly the same.”

"He still had a few inches to grow and hadn’t started growing the Karabeard"

Its Northborough but yes both are central MA. Anything Worcester County is considered central MA.
Northborugh is considered Central MA. Southborough I would consider more Eastern MA but it is in Worcester County. It's the only town fully inside I-495 that is in Worcester County so we don't consider ourselves part of Worcester County. The county line seems to follow 495 and then makes a jog to include Southborough. Marlborough to our north and Hopkinton to our south (both are inside and outside 495 and Southborough is completely inside 495) are not in Worcester County. Always wondered why that is.

I agree. But others don't. Towns & Cities
That's more accurate. The Blackstone Valley is the Blackstone Valley, not "Central Mass". Northborough is still a Boston Suburb and Southborough certainly is. When I lived in Shrewsbury it was split between Worcester focused people and Boston focused. I'd say Central Mass is west of Rt 140 in that part of the state. The towns on 495 (on either side of it) aren't central Mass.

I’ve always thought it was southborough, and that’s what’s listed on the MBB website.

I feel like anything at inside the 495 beltway has to be considered eastern MA. It’s basically part of the Boston metro area. I went out to westborough and ashland all the time when my friend lived out there

Karaban grew up in Southborough but his family moved to Northborough the summer before he entered high school. All his friends are from Southborough and he considers himself from Southborough. Northborough and Southborough share a high school and the school is in Northborough.

Friend of lives in Northborough (we went to UConn together). His son was in HS with Alex, same age, during that one year Alex was there. They sure don't consider it "central mass".

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law live in Northborough and will coincidentally be at our house tonight. I will ask them what they think. Southborough definitely doesn't consider themselves Central Massachusetts.

Definitely not for Southborough. Inside 495 and touches Framingham. Northborough doesn't quite touch 495 and is on 290. 290 is like the "highway to central mass" so it's borderline, but I still don't think so. The center of the state is closer to Amherst than to Northborough.

Amherst is definitely considered western MA even though geographically it looks more central. Ask anyone who went to UMass and they'll proudly call it Western MA.

I think it has more to do with culture than location. Western MA is farmers and hippies, Eastern MA is greater Boston and the shore, Central mass is hockey and heroin (I use to work in Worcester)

Yawn.

So Alex is both south and north, but not central but maybe central?
For more fun, consider the wide variety in what folks from NYC and Long Island call 'Upstate." A surprising number of people start with anything north of Yonkers, or think they're being nuanced if they exclude Westchester.

Yeah you tell someone outside Mass you are on the south shore they ask what shore or south of what. Living down the Cape really confused them

No, I agree…I’m WNY and I hate being termed upstate but I also see how stuff gets intertwined with different groups.

I was mostly being tongue in cheek because that’s not my geographical area and it’s the offseason and I wanted to be snarky.
