Alex k needs to move his game in

Agreed, to me this is/was the #1 thing he needs to correct for the NBA. Not exactly sure what it is about his form, but likely too much off hand involved. I fear Alex will always be streaky with the diagonal rotation.

Compare it to Hawk who is simply deadly when squared up and shooting success immediately translated to the deeper NBA 3, Hawk's form and rotation are near perfect.

Definitely not the most aesthetically pleasing shot. Diagonal rotation and a low load, probably takes him a half second longer to get off which allows defenders to get there. Compare that to a Liam, who like Hawk, has a high, simple and quick release with perfect rotation.

AK has certainly mastered his form, but it’s definitely not the most efficient. When Alex is off, he has a tendency to miss badly.

If it works, it works! Even with the 2 really bad games this year, he’s shooting a career high in 3P% on a career high amount of attempts. And even with the postseason slump last year, he was at 37.9% (for reference Hawkins was 38.8% his sophomore year). Great games against Memphis and Texas

From my comfy couch, I seem to remember most of his missed 3s rimmed out. He was largely on target, just a bit shy of going in.

He does have the skill and ability to be at the right place at the right time, aka BBIQ. Example: the catch near the basket and the score at the end or cuts to the basket for scores.

But, I cannot recall his ever having shown any post up skills. Not sure if he is going to suddenly or gradually, develop this skill set at this point in his career.

Near the basket, he has scored on offensive rebounds, but that is different from post up skills.

That's so bizarre. Is the benchmark for posting whether you'd say it to someone's face? Next time you run into Dan Hurley, you'll lead with how his conduct in Maui was embarrassing? I'll answer for you... no. But you be internet you.

He was a complementary piece (3rd or 4th option) the last 2 years and was very good in that role. I think his limitations are getting exposed as a focal point and he is best as a secondary player. Nothing wrong with that. McNeeley stepping into lead dog role should benefit AK the most

I don't mind getting Alex some occasional post touches when there is a mismatch but the idea of moving him in a foot or two on threes is an doesn't really make sense. One of the reasons our offense is so good is because defenders need to guard him so far away from the hoop and it opens the lane for McNeeley's drives to the hoop or the easy post touches for Reed. Alex just needs to get back in the lab and we will be fine.

Maybe he can use his size and length to have a more of post game inside. I would like to see him take some shots closer to the rim when posting up. He has tried dribble penetration and when teams collapse on him doing it he is a turnover machine. I think he needs to develop a game closer to the rim that will help open up his outside game.

Great point. I remembered Tristan Newton getting absolutely hammered driving in and he was a guard so its no wonder he has not been very successful because they are collapsing on him.

If Karaban shooting from 5 feet behind the line:
1) opens up floor spacing for guys to drive, post up, or make it challenging for the defense to recover, and
2) does not significantly degrade his shooting percentage

then he should continue to do it.

I think there are valid questions about #2. I think #1 is harder to assess.

I’d like both Alex and Solo to mix in some occasional drives into their games. It would open more room for their shots and force defenses to play them more honestly. Also, I think the team would benefit by them driving not just to score but also to make plays and passes to others while driving. It should generate open three point looks or our bigs slipping open as they penetrate the defense to draw opposing bigs to them.

Alex has the green light from Dan to take open shots for a reason. He's pretty good at it. Like in all of CBB-good. Even on the occasional off-night for him. The team is usually getting the W-in part because of the other ways he contributes.
