Good win to start, excited for the home opener next Friday.

Team got better as game went on. Dominated third period. UAH with ZERO shots on goal in third period. Albeit it is against a lesser opponent, it is still pretty impressive to hold a team to no shots on goal in a period.

Positives from tonight:

Freshmen can play
Letunov is the playmaker the team has needed and he can finish
Team was never bogged down in their zone
Team was able to outshoot their opponent by a wide margin

Hopefully, they can get the sweep tomorrow night.

First hatty of the night (2nd of the #NCAAHockeyseason) goes to @UConnMHOC forward Max Letunov in 5-2 win against UAH.

The Huskies and Chargers are back at it again tomorrow night to close out the series. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:07 pm CST.

I saw Letunov's 3 goals (sort of UAH stream sucked - save your $5.99). The 2nd goal was a rebound off of a Naas shot that handcuffed the UAH goalie. The puck squirted loose near the goalie's left pad and Letunov buried it before anybody else even spotted it.

Changes for game 2 tonight:

I believe Thulin is in net tonight

Gendron, replacing Austin, paired with Drake

Thompson and Letunov on the same line

Kalter, replacing Richter, centering the fourth line

Out: Kunnas, Wight, El-Mir, Richter, Austin

UConn determined to give UAH as many 5 on 3's as possible tonight. Way too many penalties.

Thulin had no chance on the 3rd goal. Terrible penalty by Kirtland leading to 5 on 3.

Not a good period. Definitely not playing as well as last night.

UConn power play still unimpressive.

Seems the only opportunities come with the Letunov, Thompson, Naas line on the ice.

Spencer Naas ties it at 3-3
..edit - website had goal as an error, now saying shot missed.

Naas goal waved off. Puck went over the line. Whistle must have been blown early.

5-2. Terrible giveaway on the power play leads to a shorthand goal.

Gave up another breakaway on power play but UAH did not convert.

Since 2013 this team is 10-61-5...and they are kicking our ass tonight.

This is a poor performance. Seems Cavanaugh as real issues with consistency and getting the team focused for every game especially after wins. My expectations will have to be readjusted I guess. Really thought we would be over these stinkers against less than great competition at this stage into this process. Not the case.

UConn's play in tonight's third period is a complete 180° from last night's third period.
