Aidan Mahaney named to Jerry West Award Preseason Watchlist

It would be really strange if the player named to this list doesn't start. I wonder if that's ever happened before.

Aidan Mahaney may still be fighting for a starting spot with the UConn men's basketball team, but he's viewed as one of the top 20 shooting guards in the country.

Mahaney was named as one of 20 watch-list candidates for the 2025 Jerry West Award, given annually at the end of the season to the nation's top shooting guard.

It's going to be difficult for Mahaney to do that coming off the bench. Newt and Cam were starters.

I don't think it's a matter of who starts but what each player does with the minutes they get. Mahaney, Ball and Diarra will all get solid PT. Who starts the first real game might be different than who starts the first BE game and who starts by BET time.

Does it really matter? My hope is all the players develop as the season goes on and they end up with a bunch of dynamic rotations that result in a B2B BET championship and an NCAA 3-peat.
