Based on what? He has been hurt by the fact, that we let teams back into games that should be blowouts. That would give him some playing time and hasten his development. But unless he is ripping it up in practice. He will have to wait his turn.
 
While I too would like to see Nowell get some minutes, and Stewart to get more minutes, I’m at the stage where I realize I need to trust the staff because they’ve earned it. Bill Belichick used to get the benefit of “in Bill we trust” until he proved he no longer deserved it. This staff is nowhere close to that point.

This is it. Nowell would get more minutes if the guys in front of him didn't let 20 point leads drop into single digits. His defense would have been welcome against Enright, but despite 3P% issues our PGs went for 14pts/13ast/2TO today
 
If injuries aren’t a factor, game minutes are earned during practices. Ahmad missed a bunch of practices while being injured.
 
It seems to me there is a concerted effort to make the Mahaney signing work out come hell or high water. Unless there is an injury Nowell is not going to be allowed to contribute this season. In the second half today Reed and Stewart barely played. Hurley's sub patterns have always been odd to me.
 
While injured he probably missed a lot of practice too. I fear that missed time was needed for him to develop chemistry with other players.
 
Mahaney is better than Ahmad. Hurley had made this crystal clear.

Felt like weak play at the point led to more than 2 TOs down stretch from Mahaney when Diarra was in foul trouble. I expected Nowell to be brought in for ball handling.

People saying the reason he doesn't get any run because we give up leads late in games are missing the point that we're asking him to get some minutes to help prevent us from giving up late game leads.

And I'd like Mahaney to be free up from ball handling so he can attack off the dribble when the ball swings to him during our offensive sets.

Yeah it’s definitely about validating transfer portal decisions and has nothing to do with the fact that message board fans might not have as good a grasp on personnel as the coaching staff.

“not going to be allowed to contribute” - this place is hilarious.

Just another talented freshman that won’t play or be developed much during their freshman year.

Then when he has his flaws next year people will complain about how they aren’t playing like veterans when they pretty much took a year off of playing competitive basketball.

Mahaney is coming alive. Scared straight. He realizes his pT depends on it.

He needs to maximize what he's good at because what he's bad at aren't going to improve at this level.

Yeah he is still having issues bringing up the ball and initiating offense. When McNeeley went out and Diarra in foul trouble it was a little scary on the court for a few minutes. At least ball and Karaban hit some 3s so we didn't need to worry about it. I do like to see Mahaney penetrate more as that seems to be the strength of his game. He really isn't a great shooter like Ball. He is more of a scorer.

I do think it's strange we can't find minutes for him once we're up 20. It's not like we knew they'd make a comeback.

The TOs when it went from 20 to 9 were:
  1. Karaban illegal screen (hit sticked a guy)
  2. Karaban throwing it away while passing to Solo coming off a screen
  3. Karaban getting stripped on a drive
  4. Solo losing his balance on a drive and throwing it away
  5. Stewart illegal screen
Nowell is one of my favorite players on this team but I don’t see how him being on the floor prevents any of those turnovers
