No, he was saying that we would lose incoming guys if Ollie stayed for ‘18-19. If he has inside info, I’d like for him to share it.
True. We lose current and incoming players when he stays.

Didn't read it that way either. No, he was saying that we would lose incoming guys if Ollie stayed for ‘18-19. If he has inside info, I’d like for him to share it.
...hey, watch me...I know we're not supposed to speculate transfers but
It's not about a ranking; it's about what this guy is going to bring to the table. Something we have been desperately missing since Shabazz.....The school isn't going to approve a $10M buyout. The squad that it looks like we will have next year will have a good chance of getting us back on track and to stop the bleeding. You guys can't focus exclusively on player rankings. Look at the tape and how they fit into what we want to do. Look at the upside of that player. We've had plenty of highly rated players flame completely out. It's insane people are even entertaining keeping a coach because of a player ranked 90-something in the country.
If you think 5'11" James Akinjo will save Ollie's program then I want what you're having. It's not about a ranking; it's about what this guy is going to bring to the table. I can’t see what Adams and Larrier have done up to this point that screams they are leaving. If they are getting advice to go then it’s bad advice because they are no where NBA ready and maybe not even Mid European ready.
Many donors are not Ollie supporters and the UConn Foundation and AD David Benedict are very much aware of that. And like the donors Im an Ollie supporter. Sorry.
The fact that the Ollie apologist crowd is worried about losing incoming recruits and players is comical. You do realize that Ollie added 8 new players to the current team (more than 60% of the roster) and most were thrown together last minute, right?
Or, some people who inexplicably believe all large donors prefer to disclose their generousity.Amazes me that people think true feelings pro or con would be spoken openly in this venue or even the Courant.
Where to begin...
Do you think the AD is currently doing well enough financially for that? Furthermore, do you think it will see the requisite financial success in the future? How will we compare to programs in P5 conferences whose content is being bought for a much higher value than those in the AAC?
Thanks for the backup, but he knows that's what I was talking about.Pretty sure he was referring to last year when UConn lost top recruit and three players transferred with Ollie staying.
It was a 5'11", non-athletic looking guard that led us to our first national championship, Khalid El Amin. It's not his stature, but ability to run the team and be a leader that will matter most. I have no idea if he's that kind of player but let's not write him off already. If you think 5'11" James Akinjo will save Ollie's program then I want what you're having.
He is talking about track record, not rumors for the current team or crop of recruits. Ollie lost three returning players and MAL (incoming player) over the summer. Again, these people QUIT on him and/or rejected him. He didn't "press" any "reset" button. It was pressed for him, because of him. He labeled those guys as players that "didn't want to be here" but the truth was probably closer to them "not wanting him to be their coach". Since this just happened, it is more like to keep happening than not. It is possible that Ollie loses no one this summer but that is not what a reasonable person assumes will happen. There is inertia here and it isn't good inertia. If the boosters want Ollie back, we will see what happens. We have no choice. If more kids/recruits quit on him, that is almost worst than the dreadful on-court performance. If such a scenario plays out, you can't keep giving the guy "one more year" to fix the messes he is creating. Eventually the buy out will be manageable and/or the boosters will give up on Ollie.
Comes a time when the donors have to start questioning if the people making the decisions know what they're doing. To fire Diaco right after giving him an extension was crazy. To expect that well to be tapped into again is lunacy. I just hope they're learning from their mistakes.Anyone surprised that the donors don't feel like cashing out KO after the extension was made? Sure there is probably some actual support in the room for KO, but if things go south from here his performance won't be the main deciding factor. Just like Steve Bannon it's who pays the bills.
If the right guy is out there at the end of a disastrous season, you'd love to take advantage of that. But DB might not be in a position to do anything other than plant the seed for next year with donors. There comes a point when you can't live on excuses anymore but Ollie's contract may buy him another year to show some results. My mind is just slightly open to see what he could do with 1 or 2 decent shooters and an improved Carlton. He hasn't had any answers with the group he has, but he at least needs to show some resiliency to finish this year or the confidence needle drops to zero.
I'd prefer if 1 of them bounced. The chemistry between those two is off.I can’t see what Adams and Larrier have done up to this point that screams they are leaving. If they are getting advice to go then it’s bad advice because they are no where NBA ready and maybe not even Mid European ready.

I agree. But how many times can you go to the donors hat in hand and ask them to fix your mistakes with their money?Giving him the extension was crazy, firing him was mandatory.

I'm hoping KO turns it around.
If it were just another year of sucking I would be on board possibly. My concern is someone like Danny Hurley who would likely be available now and willing to make move, might not be available or willing should this collapse of relevancy extend this another year.At this point part of me is like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe giving him one more year so we can get Akinjo in the door and avoid a mass exodus at the same time Adams and Larrier are most likely leaving isn't the worst thing. It's not like we are going to change conferences by next season. Worst case scenario we suck again. We have dealt with 4 years of mediocre results is what is one more at this point? It is not going to kill the program.
The other part of me recognizes UConn basketball is dead and we will never finish above 8th place in the American again.
No. He was referring to the past tense. No, he was saying that we would lose incoming guys if Ollie stayed for ‘18-19. If he has inside info, I’d like for him to share it.

If Benedict decided that Hurley is the man he wants for the job and this is his one chance to get him, then by all means he should make his move. That is what he was hired to do. However, if something like this were to happen I feel there are some things that UConn fans will need to accept.
The first is that, based on the current conference situation if we hire someone outside the Calhoun family the UConn job might be seen as a stepping stone. The good thing about a successful Ollie is that we wouldn't have to worry about him going to another school. If Hurley came here and succeeded in turning the program around he might move on to the next big thing. I am not saying this would be a certainty or even the worst thing in the world, just that there would likely be rumors at the end of each season and we couldn't brush them off as easily.
The second is that if Ollie's replacement is a dud we are likely in an even worse situation than we are now. If (God forbid) Geno were to retire in the next couple years, what would our athletic program have to hang its hat on, and why would any decent conference have incentive to add us?
I am really not trying to argue that Ollie deserves another year. I just hope that if things move a little slower than some people would like we should consider that it might be better for the program in the long run.
But realistically, why stay in school if your goal is to play pro ball? Will another year at UConn not getting paid be better for development or getting paid to play vs better opponents with better teammates and better coaching?I can’t see what Adams and Larrier have done up to this point that screams they are leaving.
