Adamec: Key recruiting weekend upcoming for UConn

If Uconn get signatures from Williams, Odo, and Magbegor, would you BYers be happy or would you think signing all three would be bad for WBB? Maybe tell one of them to sign with some other school and

You have to be impressed by the little you saw though? Her ability to run the floor, finish with either hand, explosive first step, tremendous footwork. shot blocking and rebounding, and her athletic ability all stand out in that short video.

Especially if she has learned the art of shot blocking without fouling!!! :D

SMH............"IF"................... UConn could somehow get all 3 of these ladies to commit, that would be a "shot heard round the world" akin to Bobby Thomson's. That signing would be larger than the 4 member freshman class they scored last year.

Whether it would be good or not depends on one's perspective. If you're a UConn fan, it would be great!!!
If you're not, then it would be bad, because those signings would allow UConn to continue its dominance in Division 1, and keep them in their rightful place at the forefront of the "elite" programs in WCBB for at least the next 5-6 years. :D

I think it would be good for WCBB but bad for my health. All that jumping up and down with joy and stuff. I could perhaps listen to more of those gloom and doom UT fans, sort of even things out.

I agree 100% but the folks at BU may differ. Apparently someone in the "know" heard that, in addition to NSmith, they got DeCosta and HSG. That will give them Prospectsnation #2, #4, and #5. If UConn does does Williams et al., the battle for supremacy will be interesting.

.-.
Yeah, gettin tired of Texas and Baylor hogging all the prospects.

Seriously, after all the talk the last few months, if Williams and ONO chose UConn heads might explode in Texas, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The other school that does pretty well, but not getting the higher recruits is Texas A&M, in getting these homegrown kids. Quick analysis (not really quick :D) of Hoopgurlz 2008 to 2018 (YTD), Texas will/has secured 16 recruits from Texas over these 10 years (Top 10 rank #2, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7) . Texas A&M with 14 recruits (Top 10 rank #6, #7) Baylor with 13 recruits (Top 10 rank #1, #1, #3, #8, #8).

Since 2008 there has been 105 recruits from Texas, over 50% of them stay home. The other schools "receiving votes" are Texas Tech (5), TCU (4), Houston (2), North Texas (1) and Southern Methodist (1).

Oklahoma is a good "second home" for these Texas kids with 5 recruits. Oklahoma St (1). The PAC-12 does very good in getting these Texas recruits (13), with Stanford getting 5 (Top 10 rank #1, #6, #8)

Christyn Williams and ONO will be visiting on a weekend when the (1-4) UCONN football team is playing in Philadelphia.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I think that would be a similar class to Stewie, Moriah and Morgan. Not sure any of those 3 will be as good as Stewie - superstar Olympian, but all 3 are really really good...

.-.
Maybe just football players. :D

Lol.. Would you rather them go to the game and see UConn lose or have no game to go to at all and spend more personal time with the team/coaches?

UConn shouldn't give her a scholarship or shouldn't have her visit on their dime ?
(bringing )

Soooooo, how have Australian recruits worked out for UCONN? A gal from Texas is home sick. What is it like for an Australian gal? :(

That's a good question. Probably the latter, at least UCONN has a good WCBB program to sell. At TN Christyn saw a bad program and a bad football team getting curb stomped.

In front of 102,000 fans at Neyland Stadium. I watched a game there many years ago, in front of a packed house, with TN playing a Steve Spurrier coached Duke team. Duke stunned the Vols on that day, but it was a great place to watch a football game.

UConn has done ok with recruits from California, which, last time I looked, is further West than Texas is.
Because UConn hasn't been successful with Australian recruits in the past, it means that they shouldn't attempt to recruit them in the future ?
That is not very sound thinking. When extrapolated, it would mean that they shouldn't attempt to recruit a player from a place where they haven't been successful in recruiting before.

Magbegor has been away from home for international competition before. I know that's not as long a stretch as a college season but it's something. Plus, she has already stated her intention of playing in the WNBA. Somehow I doubt homesickness will be an issue.

Yes, I've heard of risk analysis. UConn, evidently, has also and believe she's worth the risk. But thanks for taking on the thankless job of self appointed fiscal watchdog. You're doing a great job.

She is living away from home now in some Aussie Elite training facility.

A gal from Australia would be home sick anywhere in North America (Seattle, Miami, or Storrs) no matter where she goes. So I would guess it wouldn't make much difference. It's different for players from the U.S., as opposed to players from outside the country. They have to come to grips with the fact that they'll be going a l-o-n-g way from home, and will be gone for a while. Once they get over that hurdle, they should be fine. Every freshman gets homesick (unless they live locally), it's a natural phenomenon. Especially if it's their first time away from home. That first bout of "sickness" usually hits some where between 45-75 days in. Football players (unless they're playing in a bowl game), get to stay home for the holiday break for a month. Basketball players 5 days at best. The fastest 5 days of the year. :)

Oldude, trust me, you were not alone. :( I'm OK now. I'm looking forward now, and not speculating about what might have been. I think UConn will get a post player during the early singing period next month that will make us forget all about whatshername. When one door closes, another one always opens. :)
It’s always interesting to speculate about school choices by top recruits. I kind of think that having the greatest basketball opportunity was not a high enough priority for those that do not choose UCONN. That means they don’t have enough desire to be the best player they can be. So if they don’t want to make that much of a commitment then maybe they aren’t UCONN material after all.

You got a point there, what's another 3,000 miles when you travel 7,500 miles to California? It reminds me of the Shawshank Redemption scene, about "Hope is a good thing..."
