In yesterday's JI the Dean of The Horde has a lengthy article on CD The Younger.
The link only has the first part of the story so I don't include it here. Geno says that he envisions
a role for Doty that is similar to the one played by Kelly Jolly back in the day....organize the offense...hit a shot occasionally....calm things down if needed.

I gotta say, I loved watching Jolly back in the day. That was before I grew to love UConn, and I had a copy of the Lady Vol documentary about the season before. I think it's not a terrible player to be compared to...didn't she win a few NCs? She always played really hard.

Geno has never said anything negative about Lady Vol players. He has complimented them many times in the past. He has coached some in USA basketball.

He has always had a good relationship with the players and has been very objective in that regard. I don't think this indicates anything other than an analogy between what Jolly did for those Tennessee teams and what Doty does for this team.

Yep, I agree. I haven't really had any issues with the Lady Vols players, and Catchings will always be one of my all-time favorites. It's the coach and the fan base.

And the parallel extends further as Caroline now says she is very interested in coaching.

I grew up with Kellie, and her family. She was actually a couple years older than me, but I was the same age as her younger bro, and spent a lot of time with them playing ball, going to games, etc. Kellie is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen! As a young kid, I know for a fact, that she spent literally every free moment in the gymn working on her game. She suffered an ACL tear her senior year of hs, and came back to play that year, much like the time she tore it again at UT, and once again, came back in record time to win another NC. Pat said it best when describing Kellie by saying it was "like having an extension of myself on the court with Kellie." She may not hold the records at UT, but she was one of the greatest, if not the greatest, point guards Pat ever coached! I would take the comparison as a huge compliment if I was Doty! The list of point guards in WCBB whom have lead their teams to 3 NC's is extremely short. Kellie was the glue that held the team together! She wasn't the most talented, flashiest, or fastest, but she was the smartest (running the team wise) and had the heart and work ethic of a warrior! There are far worse people to be compared too!

Nope that was Kristen Clement. Harper (Jolly) graduated in 1999.

Unquestionably great, but if she would shore up her weaknesses and play to her strengths more, she'd be even better. And if she had a better attitude--like Catch--I'd like her too.

Oh I hated them all, respected them but hated them, at least until their college careers were over.
