About the clearest read that Gabby's had the hip issue for a bit. "She's been doing this with a sore hip," Auriemma said. "She tries to do the right thing. The days when she gets frustrated she is not a very good player. I don't think today was one of those days, she was just sore."

Geno set out to make a point to the bench (and possibly also the nagging media and fanbase?) about why the bench players weren't getting significant minutes. It's pretty classic Geno, if not quite routine. Geno reaffirmed that he's not going to give minutes to those who don't 'get it' unless he has no other choice.

All well and good. But then fate or misfortune intervened with a bunch of nagging injuries to the starters popping up at once at the end of the game there. Showing that we may be closer to "no other choice" than he would prefer. Geno is probably made of sterner stuff than I am, but that would put me in a pertty foul mood. I wouldn't blame him if that added a bit of salt to his postgame presser.

Looking at all the injuries out there--Notre Dame, South Carolina, UConn, et al.--it makes me think of a certain player who played in 154 of 154 games over 4 years at UConn and 237 of 238 games over 7 years in the WNBA. I appreciate Maya a little more every day.
