Adama Sanogo to Italy | The Boneyard

Adama Sanogo to Italy

Unfortunately his skills did not match how the nba game is played. The more I think of Sanogo I think he is truly a similiar version of Charles Oakley. Maybe a bit smaller but way better offensively in the paint. And Oakley was able to have a great career.

Yeah, I wish he was in the USA so I could watch. I really love his energy and will miss him. At least I will be in Istanbul for a bit last August so might be able to head to Italy. If I see him, will say all of us at the UConn Boneyard miss you and wish you well!

To be clear, it should be mentioned that the BCL is NOT the Italian League. This is the European Champions League. Like soccer, except you have a lot more games in the league and you play exclusively in the league.

The top teams from the national leagues compete in the BCL.

It's a level up from the Italian League.

Nice short flight to get home too. I'd guess Rome has a direct flight for 6 hours or so to Mali
Was curious, minimally >8 hours from Rome to Mali’s main international airport, capital and most populated city, Bamako. Required plane change in Casablanca. Other longer alternatives require 2 or more stops.

Whaley just signed with a team in Turkey.
Good for Isaiah to get away from his last season in Russia. The Wrench’s new team in Turkey’s Basketball Super League is based in the country’s 4th most populous city, Bursa (>2 mil), original Ottoman Empire capital, about 2+ hours from Istanbul.

Rome > Paris > Bamako is another option. Casabalanca is a ways from Mali

Misinformation is a wonderful thing. The BCL is not like soccer because this Basketball Champions League is NOT the top-tier European league- that is the EuroLeague. The Basketball Champions League is organized by FIBA and is two steps down from the EuroLeague. This competition is the soccer equivalent of the Conference League- the third-tier pan-European competition. It is comprised of mid-tier teams from the major countries (Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, etc.) and champions of smaller to medium sized countries. Also, teams do NOT play exclusively in the Basketball Champions League. The majority of games they play are in their domestic league alongside teams who do also play in the EuroLeague and EuroCup (second-tier league).

Ergo, as it is the third-tier continental competition, it is not really a level up from the Italian league. On average, it might actually be a step down.

I wish Sanogo landed with a EuroLeague squad, but he has at least landed on his feet so I am happy for him.

Yup, I considered Air France and other airlines via CDG. Inconveniently, a less direct trip and longer total flight time ( near 12 hrs vs Royal Air Maroc via Casablanca <9 hrs). Bottom line: Quicker than anywhere in the US, yet no quick hop exists even from Rome let alone from Sanogo’s new location Trapani or nearby Palermo on Sicily.

Thanks. When I looked it up, the FIBA website said that in order to qualify for the BCL, teams must win their league or else be in the qualifying top group. Which is similar to soccer. It's confusing to think EuroLeague is outside the structure of the governing body.
