AD Dave, you've done an outstanding job leading the athletic department. Despite not being in a P4 conference, UConn's athletes perform among the best in the country. I have never been prouder to be a UConn fan. It is not hyperbolic to say that you face an era-defining decision. The ongoing success of the athletic department and the reputation of the university are riding on the head football coach you hire. You have demonstrated the capacity to excel in similar situations, and I believe you will again.

You are in the spotlight, and it is your time to shine.

Bingo. If this is bad we are in big trouble. He has been great. Hope he gets it right and he gets the person he wants. I get others have input but I trust this guy. As an alum and huge fan I do not think its an overstatement to aay our long term viability of athletic excellence is at stake.

I didn't think we had a chance to get a guy like Mora.
Every HC we've had since we've gone D1 was a defensive guy.
Let's throw some names out there to get us through the long weekend.

i don't have another 5 years of suffering fanhood in me, so praying they get this hire right.

i came into this when UConn was at its worst, like UMass level, and I don't know if I will survive another era of miserable losing. this could easily fall apart and in less than a calendar year we could find ourselves right back in the basement with UMass. I gave up on the Jets a few years back and took back my sundays and mental energy, and tbh it's been refreshing to not care anymore.

hoping UConn can stay relevent and on track toward a conference invite, but if we don't...........

Screw it fire Hurley and Geno and do everything we can to hire Cignetti away from Indiana.

In all seriousness, we should be looking at Malzahn from FSU, hell maybe even poach Norvell.

Factors working in our favor are the very recent success of the program, future schedules with reasonably good profiles yet not oppressive challenging, a very high profile athletic brand and quite a few one time top tier coaches on the market who would love an opportunity to prove their value.

Working against us are a situation where we may have no more second chances to restore the program if we fail on this hire and the old guard in this sport who never were receptive to new schools trying to join the club and the national press who for the most part seem to prefer viewing us only as a basketball school.

At least AD DB has been around to hear One Shining Moment. He knows how wonderful Luther's voice sounds and how that song can forever play in his head if he makes the right choice.

DB is prepared. Now let's see if it is a Brian Kelly type, a Gordon Sammis type, or a younger HC moving up type!

If I'm AD David Benedict today here's the 2 coaches I target (opposite sides of the coaching spectrum):

1.) Bob Chesney, HC, JMU (did miracles at Holy Cross, is currently in CFP race at JMU, 48 years old, looking for his next step up the ladder, currently making $833k at JMU, UConn could pay upwards of $2.5 - 3M a year)
2.) Mike Gundy, Former HC, Oklahoma State (longtime head coach, 58 years old, 170-90 at OK State, 12-6 in Bowl games, looking for another shot to rebuild his legacy. Instant name recognition)

Well, from your Jets profile image, you haven't totally quit in the Jets. 🤣

my gut tells me chesney will never happen. But my gut also told me mora would never leave for another G6 school.
shoot the shot, i guess :D

fair - i grew up near hofstra (old Jets HQ), so I'll be a Jet fan forever. but i don't watch or follow anything they do, anymore. at least not until they show a sign of life on the field.

Anyway - back to UConn.

With Chesney, it would be whether or not he wants to come back to New England. If that matters to him, it would help. Unfortunately, it seems like he’s gonna have some big opportunities unless we run into somebody willing to cough up 5 million a year for him.

I would be exceptionally happy with Chesney and believe that at a minimum a phone call should be made to him.

I'm not so sure that Penn St has Chesney on their radar as they may very well believe that they are too big of a fish for someone with little G level experience. The coaches they hired to replace Joe Pa were from an NFL staff, then from a lower tier SEC school. Don't be surprised if their sites are set on a P level school that is currently outperforming their history.

Yes.
In terms of Bball, i cant remember the details of the situation, it made my head spin, but there was an interview with AD where he explained how he navigated our boosters, NIL the budget and made a calculated gamble that paved the way for '23 and '24.
I think he's kind of a genius, tbh. He'll get it right. He's better than us.

Chesney is reportedly in the mix at UCLA among other P4 openings. I don't think going from G5 JMU to G5 UConn is a likely scenario, I think his next move, whether it's this year or next will be to a P4 opportunity.
