A retweet of a sales guy for an old folks home who moonlights as a caddy having no connection to UConn other than buying a ticket to an occasional sporting event...the crescendo of UConn to the ACC talk is getting too loud to ignore. Looks like the stars are starting to align!

Sure, he’s got the opportunity to make a case for us. That’s what he’s doing. Essentially, he saying we are already competing at a level that’s at the top of the big boy table even without P5 money. We are a low risk choice.

Plus it probably isn’t making us very popular with Val who is in the middle of trying to sell the league - with us in it - to TV networks.

It’s marketing for the school, and perhaps for him. If he wanted to tell the fan base, something, he would. There’d be no reason for him to give hints.

FWIW...Who cares what Val thinks? She knows that if a P5 invite ever comes UConn's way, the Huskies are "gone in 60 seconds". Both Val & the Networks will have that in mind during contract negotiations. It's the media albatross around her neck. The networks will offer low ball figures with UConn's exodus in mind.

Given this, either (1) Dave has something definitively working, or (2) he is leaning into a counter-productive narrative because the Big East still cuts our checks. Time will tell which.

Do the Networks and the BE try to force UConn's hand by requiring a GOR for the new contract?

If so, what does UConn do?

The networks we're talking about are Fox and ESPN. If UConn had any chance to jump to a P5 the networks would be the first to know since they ultimately have an outsized say in who's in and who's out.

No, the networks will just be able to pay less if UCONN leaves.

There is no exodus being planned unless a P5 offer comes our way, but the Big East is quite aware that we will bolt if we get the P5 offer. We'll just have to pay exit fees. The sad reality is we might have to wait until the ACC GOR expires before we get an offer (2036).
