As compared to the $24.6 million of the BiG and $20.1 mil of the SEC.

The projected $2.4-million shortfall within Florida State’s athletics budget is apparently gone.
FSU athletic director Randy Spetman told the university’s Board of Trustees that additional money from the Atlantic Coast Conference helped erase the shortfall.

“On June 1, we got an extra $1.6 million (from the ACC),” Spetman said. “That put (the conference payout) right at over $16 million, which we thought would be $14.1 million

PAC-12 payouts for 2010-11.
2011-12 will be similar. The new deal kicks in for 2012-13.
The PAC old contract distributes football television money based on type and quality. ESPN, Major Network, Regional etc. Expense money is included in the totals.

TV rights fees: $59,539,702
Bowl revenue: $33,408,339
NCAA tourney revenue: $17,242,330
Other: $1,166,386 (sponsorships, licensing, etc)
Total: $111,356,757 (includes investment income

Stanford: $12,419,677
Oregon: $11,427,445
Arizona: $10,785,875
Washington: $9,899,430
USC: $9,366,973
UCLA: $9,258,100
Oregon State: $7,633,219
Cal: $7,609,154
ASU: $7,362,087
WSU: $6,765,558

So iowa makes 8 mil more than fsu off a tv deal. Not including all the other tiers and deals. All is well in the acc.

2010s average payout per conference for football members.

Of course every conference and every school would like to be #1 as far as payouts but the gap is what is the key. The ACC has a 20 million dollar fee for leaving the conference so if you amortize that over ten years that is 2 mil per. Add in 1.5 mil in additional travel costs for a school like FSU means that any ACC school that leaves has to make at least 3.5 mil more in their new conference just to break even. The new ACC TV deal has look-ins built in for year five and ten so likely that the per school amount would go up twice in the next ten years further catching up to the other conferences.

Bottom line, hard to see how it is finacially worth it for any ACC team to leave for any conference other than maybe the B1G but doubt that the B1g is expanding any time soon anyway and none of FSU or Clemson are getting invited to the SEC either because of the voting deal between FL, SC, GA, etc about voting 'no' on adding any school in a state in which the SEC already has a team.

1.5 million more in travel fees? This is debatable.

Addionally you fail to mention Tier III rights ownership that can help a school "break even." ACC deal looks better with this new couch coushio money but it is still not on par imo of a big 12 contract with a CCG and Tier III rights.

I have a solution. Bc cuse pitt wake duke vt gt and miami to the b10. Wvu tosu psu ind mich uconn nju to the acc. Nd to the b10. Uk to the acc. Lville to the sec. Something like ghat. Now the acc is stable.

Depends on the B12 contract does it not? If FSU could land another $4 mil in Tier 3 Rights, The B12 CCG adds another $2 mil to the B12 contract, and the SEC/Cotton Bowl adds another $1.5 mil per team, and the new Playoff system favors the Big 4 conferences to the tune of $2 mil per team (that's the last rumor I saw -- conferences with participants would see $24 mil more than the other conferences) and travel expenses are absorbed by the league office, and there's $2.5 million difference in the base television contract. That's 12 million. Fact is we don't know the real difference but it looks closer to $10 mil to me than $3.5 mil.

I'm content to see it play out.

Fsu and clem would add value to the b12. Take them away from the acc and its contract is 3ish mil less per team. They are the big boys that bring the $ and matchups on the acc. In the b12 they are part of the middle pack and bring extra quality matchups wigh other major programs. The $ diff is there if they move. Agree with rs9.

Nobody has mentioned that the reason, I believe, the ACC payout was higher than expected was the fact that they sent two teams to BCS bowls for the first time. That is not happening again anytime soon.

The ACC is under its new deal, while the Big East, Big 12, SEC and Pac 12 are all under their old one. All the numbers are going to be going up.

FSU? Definitely. Clemson, not a big boy at all.

Miami and VT are the next two down.

Then GT, Clemson, and UNC are the next level down from that.

Cheers,
Neil

Clemson is not texas bama and crew no. Butthey are a big boy compared to 75% of d1. Have they under performed the last 10 years? Sure. But lets be real.

Outside of maybe VT, the entire ACC has underperformed.

National (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2) games involving ACC teams over the past four seasons:

FSU - 29
Miami - 23
VT - 22
UNC - 21
GT -21
Clemson - 20
NC State - 12
BC - 12
Maryland - 10
Virginia - 10
Wake - 8
Duke - 2

Keep in mind that some of the ABC games are what were known as reverse-mirror games, games shown to certain regions on ABC while all the rest of the regions saw the game either on ESPN or ESPN2. If it was broadcast by ABC, it was included only in the ABC totals.

In terms of ABC Games:

FSU - 17
Miami - 10
VT - 10
Clemson - 10
UNC - 9
GT - 7
BC - 7

In terms of ESPN (not ESPN2) Games:

GT - 12
FSU - 10
Miami - 10
VT - 9
Clemson - 6
UNC - 5
BC - 3

I think the numbers show FSU is clearly the ACC's #1 showcase team while Miami and VT are next with GT, Clemson, and UNC the next level down slightly from them. And a case could be made that Miami, if they were any good at all over the past 4 years would be a slight level above VT.

I think the surprise to most will be Boston College who had 10 of their 12 broadcasts shown either on ABC or ESPN. This is not much of a surprise to me, though, since I know that BC continues to get double digit support in the TNS-ESPN college football favorite teams New England region fan polls (behind ND and PSU) and of course, playing ND at home doesn't hurt for two of those national exposure games.

In a nutshell, FSU leaving will be the killer. Losing Clemson isn't anymore significant than losing UNC or GT.

If FSU decides not to go I doubt very much Clemson will be invited with a Louisville.
Cheers,
Neil
