Curry with the shoulder injury...Russell has back issues.
Too bad, but I guess they should heal up in the ACC tournament to be ready for the NCAA. Louisville beat Clemson by 26 on February 27, Curry plus Russel totaled 17 points 10 rebounds and 5 steals. That might give Clemson enough to make it through to the quarter finals.

Which is fine with me, Walz has never been my favorite coach.

I was curious so I went back to the 2018-19 season when ND won it all. When I added up the wins ND has 101 and Duke has 64 so not very close.

I used this site to go back by year if someone wants to find other teams:

I think you meant 2017-2018.

Louisville 111
NC State 104
Notre Dame 101
Duke 75

But to be fair Duke didn’t play but 1 conference game during one of those years due to COVID concerns.

Notre Dame had 2 down seasons in there with only 8 conference wins. State has one where they just won 9. Louisville has not had any seasons during that stretch where they had less than 12 conference wins. In fact they have never won less than 12 since joining the conference. Pretty impressive run of being good.

Louisville barely survives Clemson by 2 in OT.
Why in the world did McQueen dribble past everyone and get stuck under the basket when Clemson was down 3??? I don't get that strategy at all.

At least Louisville used up a lot of minutes and got a good scare out of it. If Curry & Russell are still out Duke won't need much help.

Having a double-bye is great, but man--it does take some of the air out of the balloon when you're watching all these other teams compete and your teams are just sitting there--scouting. Duke (and South Carolina) FINALLY plays tomorrow night!

Being the 3rd seed makes it even worse. In the 2020 tournament i went to Wednesday afternoon session... All day Thursday and Friday. Got to the coliseum at 10:13 am Friday .. Watched two games.... Went home for an hour and then back to the coliseum for the evening session. Duke was the #3 seed.... And i finally took the floor around 8:15pm. Then they go out and blew a lead and lost to Boston College . Can you imagine how distraught and TIRED i was leaving the Coliseum at 10:30pm. :(

She was a punching bag, too. Took a nasty undercut on a rebound and a minute later had a bad collision. In her second game back from an injury.
I know what you mean there seemed to be a few games today where there was little control by the refs.

Utsby was one victim and her 3x3 teammate Maddy Westbeld was another. Early in the Cal game she drove, scored, and was hit so hard she couldn't complete the and one because of her back and a voluminous nose bleed.

Then near the end of the game when the matter was no longer in doubt, the biggest Cal player their center Ugonne Onyiah runs full speed at Maddy. Onyiah leaps trying to intercept a pass Maddy has already caught, she lands on her with full force and ends up on top of her with her full weight for her fifth foul.

I actually wonder if it was intentional to get out of a hopeless game and take out her frustrations. We'll never know.

Survive and advance.

Certainly not States best effort by any means. I thought early in the game State didn’t have great ball movement, a lot of quick shots that weren’t always easy shots. Madison Hayes I don’t believe got a shot attempt until 6 or 7 minutes into the game. That’s never a good sign for State, Hayes is a player who doesn’t demand the ball and isn’t a strong ISO player, but she is incredibly efficient and the team is worlds better when she’s heavily involved.

Morgan had it going on for Tech. They are also well coached. I thought in the second switching from man to zone back so frequently gave State a little bit of trouble.

It was said after the game that Saniya had practiced all week and it wasn’t known if she’d even play due to the flu. She did play but clearly wasn’t right. 3-10 for 9 points, only 4 rebounds and 3 assists 0 steals and 0 blocks. Thats pretty wild for her. You have to go back all the way to December 3 2023 to find a game where she didn’t record at least 1 steal or 1 block.

Zam and Zoe came up big for State with Rivers out of it and James in first half foul trouble. Good sign for States future there - and Tilda was rock solid.

Hope they bring the intensity on defense more so today against Chapel Hill. Revenge game.

Rivers did look a step slower than her usual but she did get 9 points which is just under her average. I hope she recovers but sometimes playing that long, 34 minutes, doesn't help healing when there's another game less than 24 hours away. She did a great job slowing Morgan down to prevent a final shot.

While the rest of the team picked up most of the slack it ended with a one point win, it could have been worse if Fortner had kept a time out or used the fouls to give. Wes Moore definitely out coached her in this game. Then in the presser Fortner lambasted the refs with a comment, "there were some interesting calls that were, well interesting" rather than focus on her mistakes.

Is there a backup who could cover for her if she gets worse? Probably not because you don't keep 6'1" senior guards of her caliber on the bench.

Hope both sides are healthy for today's game.

Call me a hater (and I'll embrace that label), but I don't think RK is that good. She shouldn't have made Second Team All-ACC.

Definitely not a replacement for Rivers with her defense and all around play. Quigley or Zam tend to be the main subs when she’s out and they offer promise for the future and at times offer a nice spark (Zam did yesterday in fact) but no one matches what Saniya does on the defensive end.

Kelly was fantastic when these teams met in Chapel Hill, she was the reason they won the game easily. But she’s been invisible today. Barely noticed her on the court. Seems like Townsend has played as much or more. Maybe her injury is still bothering her a bit ?

She was largely unimpressive for much of the ACC slate--and that was BEFORE her injury.
