Today's games:

Miami (2 - 0) at Florida (3 - 0) Good rivalry game
Coppin State (2 - 2) at VT (2 - 1) CS gave SC a battle in the early going so could be more competitive than expected.
SMU (2 - 1) at ASU (1 - 2) and the main event:
#18 Louisville (2 -1) at #20 Kentucky (3 - 0) Not just a rivalry game but should "feel" like an ACC battle lol

All four of these games are a toss-up imo

Re Jordan Woods @triaddukefan may owe one of his "favourite" land grants a thank you for releasing her from her NLI if this keeps up. ;)

Id forgotten all about that. Wood is definitely taking advantage of the injuries to Roberson and Cotton to earn more minutes... Love that she is making the most of it.
ACC is a combined 0 -7 against ranked opponents and FSU lost to a very good (but unranked) Illinois team.

There are only 6 undefeated teams left this early in the season and NONE of them have played a ranked team as yet.

C'mon ACC - DO BETTER!!

1. Most of the SEC schools haven't played anyone of note yet.

2. I'll worry about the ACC.... You need to worry about the remaining loose monkeys and the dog sized lizards running rampant in SEC country

Ustby grew up in Minnesota and Donarski grew up in nearby LaCrosse, WI, both in the same high school class as Paige. Really thought these 2 5th-year Tar Heels would be poised to impress against UConn. If either had played well, UNC might have made it more than interesting against UConn.

Well ACC won 2 and lost 2 today so an unimpressive 50% .

They are now a combined 0 -8 against ranked opponents.

At least Miami had a decent road win at Florida.

Unfortunately, this trend will probably continue to get worse. The ACC as a conference just doesn't have the NIL firepower that the SEC and the Big 10 have and perhaps it is starting to show. It is what it is! I know some people don't want to think money is a major factor, but I think that is delusional.

Which program in the BIG10 has NIL money firepower for WBB? Since it's introduction, with the exception of Clark, I can't think of anyone in the BIG10 that has made a huge splash in that area. And I don't recall hearing of programs making large offers to players either.

They all have a NIL program of some sort, but nothing close to what's been rumoured with some SEC programs. If this opinion is based on the additions of UCLA and USC, only time will tell since this is year 1 for them.

Ohio State, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa, UCLA and USC all have sizable amounts of NIL money based on what I have been told. Football schools always are going to have more money to play with..whether it goes to wbb is another story. Time will tell on USC and UCLA, what do you mean? Those programs have a ton of money...why would switching conferences change that? Everyone want proof, but look our culture likes to keep money talk hush, hush. Works great for those offering the money. The only way to find out is to talk to the high school/AAU coaches and parents of recruits. They will tell you which schools are offering and which are not. The ACC does have schools offering NIL, but as the gap between the money the super conferences get from tv deals and the Big 12 and the ACC grows, the more the ACC and Big 12 are going to be left out of the recruiting discussion for some prospects. So yep it is only going to get worse....

ACC did a lot better today (8 - 3) but struggled at the top. Ranked Stanford lost on the road to a solid Indiana team that played more like themselves today and NC State lost on the road to a TCU team that is also very good. Duke took care of business on the road at S.Dakota State (who is UNRANKED) but only by 3 points.

Part of the problem with the ACC is that the conference lacks star power. Outside of Notre Dame, which team has a big-time nationally-recognized star?

Kiki Iriafen transferring from Stanford was actually a BAD thing for this league, believe it or not.

1). I've heard the opposite when it comes to NIL for programs like Maryland as posters here have stated they were behind in that aspect.

2). What exactly does "sizeable" mean? More than $25k per player like South Carolina? It's like the chatter claiming Deniya Prawl was offered $200K in NIL from Tennessee or the $1M "demand" some say Aaliyah Chavez's family are looking for. Collectives do what they can, but like you said no one really knows what the true number is. Everything is anecdotal.

3). Time will tell with USC and UCLA because neither program has had significant success over the years. USC made it to the Elite 8 since how many years ago? And in reality, that was mainly due to Juju and the transfers that came in. UCLA's track record has been spotty as everyone knows and they still need to prove they can make it to the Final Four.

NIL is like free agency. Offer tons of money to players but fail to do the other critical things that are important when recruiting and it's all for naught. We see it all the time in professional sports where the teams who "won" free agency fall flat on their face.

The hole at the 5 was exposed for the Pack again yesterday. To be fair though - how many teams have anyone who could slow Prince? She was better than any big I’ve seen State play in recent memory and that includes Camila, Brink, Edwards and Kitley. 6’7 with fluidity and plus shooting on mid range jumpers?

TCU looked good to me. If Prince stays healthy and out of foul trouble they will be a tough out for 99% of teams. They can play a 3 man game with Hailey Van Lith, Prince and Conner and be hard to stop. The only thing stopping Prince was her guards sometimes not finding her on pick and rolls.

I’m not overly worried about the Pack overall - but I do think State has a bit of a ceiling on them. Right now they aren’t the rebounding dominant team they have been in recent years. They aren’t tough in the post on either side of the ball. The guards are great. Zoe had added an outside jumper to her game that looks very good. Azaiah is unguardable at times, Saniya effects the game with her defense, athleticism and basketball IQ which generates easy baskets at times, Zam is going to be Azaiah 2.0 in due time but needs to recognize what is a good shot and not a good shot and I’m confident that will improve with experience and coaching. State has to figure out ways to get Hayes more looks. She’s a fantastic set shooter but can’t get her own offense. She needs more driving and dishing and State also needs that in general. She can be a major weapon and thus far the Pack hasn’t tapped into that after 4 games.

I really like Awou at the 5 long term but she’s incredibly raw right now. Trygger is 6’6 but the more I see of her the more I think she’s a stretch 4 and just not built for the physicality of the post. Collier can score it inside but can’t defend and is a sub par rebounder. The issues in the post aren’t going away anytime soon.

Good post. I came on here to say the ACC looks down this year but I am definitely not counting State out yet, there’s a lot of talent there. I think the team will look much better as the year goes on.

I guess this is sort of off the ACC topic but I was shocked at how good Prince looked. She used to play very soft for her size. She was getting whatever she wanted.

I'll be honest, I have never watched her play before yesterday and I recognize State's interior defense is lacking - but I was really really impressed by her. I heard the announcers say she is in her 7th year - so a 24 year old at 6'7" is inherently going to have some advantages over 18 - 20 year olds who are very green and inexperienced, but I just thought she was a force. Her shooting touch, movement, everything about her ... I wish she played for State, but I'm also glad she's not in the ACC and we just have to see her once.

As far as State, I'm not really worried ... yet. Assuming health for TCU, I'm fully expecting them to be a top 15 team and a close road loss early to them as well as a loss to SC isn't going to hurt State at all. It's good to find out what you have and what you need to figure out this early in the season and I fully expect State to round into form as the season progresses and they figure out everyone's role and how they need to play stylistically with this group. Wes has proven himself as a tactician and defense is his calling card - right now defense is weak, I don't expect that to remain an issue year long.

Fun stat from yesterday (or not so fun really) : Prince played all 40 minutes and had 31 points, 16 rebounds 3 assists, 2 blocks and 0 turnovers. If you combine State's minutes at the 5 between Collier, Williamson and Trygger you get : 2 points on 0-5 shooting, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 blocks, 1 turnover.

Outscored by 29 at the 5 spot and only lost by 3. That's the positive spin I am telling myself this morning. The flipside is - how can State find more production at the 5?

So....the game Friday night in Greensboro and in the heart of ACC land, drew 10,467 for the UConn-UNC contest. As I recall, the ND-NC State title game in that very same arena drew 9,583 fans last year....

It's only one game. I have my doubts about TCU come tournament time. Prince played all 40 minutes? This early in the season? Not a great idea for a player who's had a history of injury problems imo. Van Lith has always done best where she's allowed to be who she is - a volume shooter. But her shooting percentage in that game was atrocious 8/24 (33%) overall 1/7 from three (14%). Not that State hasn't made other shooters % look bad but still. There are a decent number of teams that can guard Prince 1-on-1 or effectively double team her putting even more pressure on Van Lith to deliver so a good team but not a great team. It demonstrates more clearly how few dominant teams there are this year overall but especially in the ACC. Once ND gets Westbeld back I don't see anyone in the conference who can challenge them.

I definitely think the way to beat TCU is to double Prince and make a Hailey Van Lith beat you. But to be fair they do have good shooters on the team. It’s not only Hailey Van Lith.

And I agree about ND. They are the clear cut league favorite IMO.

Leave Conner open behind the arc and see what happens. Like all shooters she's streaky, but she's the kind of player who can knock down 8 or 9 in a game.
