Abraham is in the portal

You're not? You probably should
It honestly would not surprise me if he started in some nonzero number of games this season. Not saying he’ll be a bonafide starter, just that he might appear in a starting lineup at some point. No idea if this is the perspective HW611 was taking or not.

Does anyone think even as a college junior Ross would drop 24 on the U19 USA team? Doubt it.
If Ross was one of the few D1 players on his team I don’t see why not.

The points have to come from somewhere.

Nuni Omet scored 24 for South Sudan against team USA in the Olympics. Does that make him an NBA player? How about the guy for Brazil who scored 30?

Well I don't think if it was Ross instead of Furphy on the Australia team (e.g., changing 1:1) he could body up AJ Dybantsa on D and score 24 for Australia.

He just is not ready to be a leader on any team - 2x we have heard he was amazing in practice, ready to start, etc. So fool us twice is about it. This year - we have to see the results else we have Hurley pumping up a player that barely contributes too many times in games - maybe one real chink in the armor but there it is.

The thing is, at our level if you don’t see regular minutes as a freshman you aren’t seeing them as an upper class man. Too easy to go out and get an upper class man or 3 from the portal or a new freshman. There aren’t any development projects at major programs any more. Only exception might, and I emphasize might, be a 7 footer. But a power forward, a point guard? No chance.

I'm leaning heavily on the fact that Ross is a product of Hurley loving "good families", that he's a great kid, lives/breathes Uconn, is a cultural leader. Net net, a binky. Evidence 1.0 presented to the jury is that he brought his brother onboard. The issue is that Danny likes to win more than he likes his binkies, although Samson truly pushed that notion to it's limit.

How much PT binky status gets Ross will be hard to predict. There was absolutely zero about his actual play last year that suggests he's getting significant minutes, but between some development and being a binky, who knows.

When you think about Samson last year, starting over a guy who Dan Hurley is calling a top 2-3 year center this year, it generally fortifies the fact that he has emotional ties to certain kids.

The evidence IMO suggests you are on to something with this logic.

Really can't judge it - we're all human, have our ways and I'm sure part of his rationale is around keeping his culture intact as a highest priority. Urban Meyer just came out with a quote regarding Hurley and how his culture of caring as much as he does about his players is what elevates all of their play, which is a hard to come by. I fully agree with that, so you can't really fault him for giving guys that bleed the program every shot to figure it out and contribute. It's why half the locker room was crying after last year's tourney loss.

Not judging, who am I to question what Danny thinks is best. And if as a team you are how you practice at the very least Ross is putting stress on the players who get the game minutes since by all accounts in practice he performs at an all conference level.

I have always thought more of Ross than he has shown in games. But all I was doing was putting together a guess on what other people were saying. Especially the NBA scouts, I think that was all true and couple that with what Danny was saying and clearly you can see the pure athleticism for his size.

He has a great family and he is loyal to a program I have loved since I was 10 years old. If anything I want to see this kid succeed because that would not only be great for him but really draw more attention too how good a coach Hurley is and maybe even a better person. While also showing why UConn is the best men’s college basketball program.

Jayden Ross must literally look like LeBron James in practice every day to get the leash he does..

That being said, I thought Abraham had a nice bag, in the limited action that I saw. Also that leads me to believe, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, it comes down to character.

Does that mean he's a bad guy, of course not, but it's not easy being the man for like 6 years and then not getting on the court for a whole season.

I think you’re reading too much into it. Abraham wanted immediate PT and it wasn’t happening here.

It’s was coming - picturing 611 behind the podium saying you better mock me now, because Ross is coming.

Or behind the podium saying, "If you want me to say I f---ed up, I f---ed up picking Ross over Furphy."

It's wild to - within a span of 24 hours - go from telling people Ross is in the mix to start to trying to get people to bet that he'll get more minutes than a freshman who's trying to get a spot in a 9 man rotation.

I’d kinda look forward to Ross magically becoming Michael Jordesque just to watch 611 proudly come to the BY to gloat like it’s his first born. Guy would be swinging an elephant trunk around here.
