The PC board is all excited that 247 shows a 100% & "high" confidence crystal ball for PC.
They don't show UConn listed as under his college list at all.

Probably a good reason to still recruit him despite our offer being less as of now.
This could be a good story. We treat PC as our little brother minor league system. Stay in touch, text him a bit, have him over for some DP dough over the break. Let Kim give him some PT freshmen year, and when he's ready to make a leap to the bigs, we're there for him.

Issue is he's not going to PC.

If we’re getting 2 recruits then I’m Hoping for 1. Mingo and 2. County, because County (backup PG) fills a definite hole (Smith) and Landrew (backup W) doesn’t (Furphy and Ross are both returning unless they transfer out). If we get Mingo and County then hopefully next summer we’d just need a transfer C or better yet a transfer PF/C.

Demary / County
Ball / Furphy
Mingo / Ross
Stew / Transfer
Reibe / Transfer

Can we get the minutes distribution too please? This feels incomplete.

No Keita ? Made his short list

Because he was practicing fully with the team. It’s not just Hopkins and his posse that we are mad at. English let it happen but since he wanted him to stay there was not much he could do, and after all that we got stiffed. You guys are going to hate him too this year, we all are I’m afraid.
Why did English double down on trying to get Hopkins to stay after he he did them dirty for an entire season? I am genuinely asking. That would seem to be awful for the programs culture and team chemistry. If I am a PC fan, I have to question not only the judgement of English, but also anyone else involved in the decision around the program to up the offer to bring him back after that debacle last season. He had to be shown the door as soon as the season is over regardless of how talented he is. I think the program is better off going forward without him even if it sucks to lose his talent.

My Arkansas buddy is hearing its pc

Borges said 1 or 2 “prep” commitments and Keita plays professionally but you’re right I I’d prob rather have Keita than a transfer to fill the other definite need at backup PF/C

Unless someone is intentionally FOS. Let’s put it this way - a teenager a friend of mine knows well is tight with Toure’s BF. Word from the horses mouth is Arkansas.
I guess we'll see, every national insider and report is saying Providence

I guess so. Cal in the Toure kitchen a week ago would have aligned well with that report, but who knows. Maybe English found some change in his couch to up the anty. This will be interesting.

We can certainly squash Ant's big theory that he wants "far away" out of state if PC is the choice. It would fully confirm $$ the sole driver, as was straight out of TM's mouth. What makes sense is that PC is so desperate they'd push all chips in this early. Arkansas is going to have to pay lot of players.

And LongJohns, it was one degree of separation to someone who knows Toure's best friend well. If it was frothy, wouldn't have even bothered. But who knows, maybe they're slinging dookie to throw the scent off the gossip trail.

I agree in that I thought it was Arkansas last week too. But Kim English was visiting him last night, a day before he was supposedly telling coaches the decision which seems just as relevant

Last week the talk has been all Providence.

I think English needs to make the tournament this year. Providence is willing to spend on a new coach.
English with the home visit yesterday seems like it clinched it.

In Ant’s defense. He said it’d take a lot of money to keep him home. They wouldn’t be able to just match Arkansas offer. May have been what happened here.

I don't know the actual number, but the Providence offer appears to be pretty substantial, at least relative to where Toure is ranked.

A hypothetical which can make the Toure situation make sense.

If you have 5x million to spend on freshmen, and you're a school who is not traditionally able to recruit a 5*, then you have like 3x to spend on a high 4* and maybe 1x+1x on two others in your class for a 3 man class.

And then let's say another school with a higher budget (say 6x) is able to actually get a 5* to commit, but they potentially need to spend 4x on that 5*. That leaves them with only 2x for another player, which is less than 3x. So even though they have a higher budget, if the player isn't their top priority, they can be outbid by schools with slightly less but still healthy budgets.

It’s the new revenue sharing model and the school is committed from the top to the bottom in a commitment to compete at the highest level. Of course the donors are on board too. Pressure in on KE. It’s on him now, everything else is in place. I know we are the little brother but the little brother is giving it everything it has. PC has set records for themselves every year in fundraising in athletics. I’m proud of them.

I think it’s also that we are just completely tired of being also rans and afterthoughts and the new rules allow for schools with a level of commitment like PC to change that perception if it’s important to them and frankly nothing is more important to the school, the donors, and the fans.
But who are the donors? Like are there random billionaire PC grads?

From the Courant. Similar to the Borges article.

Expecting to retain a number of players from this year’s roster, UConn couldn’t honestly offer Toure the same immediate role as a freshman that figures to be available for him at a school like Providence, which reportedly made him an in-home visit on Monday and has received a “crystal ball” prediction from 247Sports. With the amount of resources available for John Calipari at Arkansas, the Razorbacks have also presumably had a greater ability to prioritize the Connecticut product.

UConn plans to designate a chunk of its money for high school players who will make an impact right away, and therefore can’t afford to pay high six-figures or even seven for a player who may not see much time on the court in his first year. The Huskies also have to keep in mind the transfer portal in addition to the retention of their own players; both of which figure to make up a good portion of the revenue share dollars in building the 2026-27 roster.
