Aaron torres on uconn

We didn't play well vs Arizona in that game. Reed/Mullins were out, and crowd was kinda quiet. Towards the end of the game the team was waking up and took the lead only to lose it . Lacked rebounding and that did us in . I would claim we played that game kinda like we've been playing recently .

Get this team healthy, develop offensive chemistry and we can beat everybody.

I think our pace (this squad) is not conducive to blow outs unless we're shooting at a high percentage. We are methodical and at times plodders, mainly running half court sets.

Prior championship teams would supplement the same offense with a running/speed game. Andre Jackson running fast breaks was a thing of beauty. Tristan would also run the fast break to perfection. 6 point leads would multiply to double digits almost instantly.

This team even with the offensive advantage will slow it down at half court. It's working great and we're winning. My concern with such half court focus could we comeback from a 2nd half double digit deficit without a good fast break offense.

I'm still looking for that player who utilizes the outlet pass after rebound leading transition baskets. It's like we don't have a need for speed.

And another thing, Mr. Torres: Last year's squad was clearly inferior to this one, on both sides of the ball, and especially at point guard (arguably the most important position in the tournament). They weren't even in the same league defensively, and yet Hurley brought them within one possession of taking down the eventual national champion. Yeah, that was in the second round. But this year's team won't see that level of competition until the sweet sixteen at least. I like our chances.

Some of that is just rebounding. We had a stretch where we ran more and then we went away from it and I suspect it's because we struggled to secure clean defensive rebounds and look up court. We really should look to push the pace when we can because teams soft press us to limit how much time we have to run our offense. That means they aren't rushing back on D and would be vulnerable.

This team is a grinder. Slow, steady, and not stopping. They aren't going to make the kill shots those curb-stomping championship teams made but they can gut a win out against anyone, anywhere.

Would love to see some actual analysis to show there is any such thing. Like, sorry, but a "killer instinct" is not needed for a team to win a championship.

I'd also argue that finding a way to elevate their game to beat all the ranked teams they've beaten is a different manifestation of that same "killer instinct"
Maybe you’re right. But maybe you’re not. Some people find ways to win and vice versa. How many close games did we lose last year and look at all the close games we won this year. That can’t be luck.

Our pace is actually a bit slower than Virginia who also runs a long offensive set using 24-28s per play.

Given that, we won't have as many shot attempts as other teams who have more pace. But, since we are #5/#6 defense in the country, we tend to get stops on D so in general if we get more attempts then them, it comes down to shooting pct basically. While we work for high percentage shots, we also have ground down the clock to a last second heave.

Message should be clear from Hurley - execute the offense better and keep up the defensive pressure.

There’s a reason Hurleys teams have peaked in March/april. They don’t run all of their sets and variations of those sets until it really counts. In addition it’s not because the offense is broken right now, it’s because players are missing open shots. If ball and karaban shoot their career averages the past few games they are blowouts. All this negativity is mind blowing.
Unfortunately Ball has a major problem with his shooting wrist. It really hasn’t gotten better and Hurley said most college players wouldn’t play if they had his wrist issue. Hurley also stated at the start of the season we needed major improvements from Jaden Ross and Jalen Stewart. The last 2 games they COMBINED for 4 points!! That kind of production is awful and puts us in very poor position to win. Thank god for Reibe and Smith or we would have lost the last game

Where/when did Hurley say that about Solo? I was shocked when someone asked him after the Providence game about Solo's wrist and Hurley said something like I don't know about that, he came off the bench and shot like 11 shots.

It was clear as day Solo's wrist was badly hurt last game after being airborne and directly falling on it.

It was after either after the GTown or Nova game that he brought it up in his presser.

Maybe rest Solo for the Xavier game?

Assuming Mullins can play.

Wow, those two are real giants of intellect. They adjusted their ratings heavily based on which team they were rating.
Example: Kansas.
They excused their five losses in order to give them a higher rating then they deserved and when they got to UConn they dismissed them with the offhand comment that they get an A but soon to be a D.

This is getting absurd. 20 wins and 1 loss (shorthanded to the current number one) and people talking about this team like we’re Wesleyan or Syracuse.
Putting Syracuse and Wesleyan together made me laugh so hard

This 100%. For those two players to produce that little is flat out awful and really unacceptable. In this last game vs Providence they both looked tentative, unsure of themselves, and indecisive and in the case of Ross, scared as he played like a spazz. I hope they play well in Omaha, but I am not expecting it as role players usually play much better at home than on the road.

That was a direct quote from Hurley in either Hartford courant or New Haven register. I live down south now but still subscribe

Here is what Hurley said after the Georgetown game. Unfortunately I couldn't find it in the Courant or Register but I know it's in one of those or both. But I did find the quote here and it's exactly as I remember even though these AI generated SI articles are terrible. I could go through his post game presser and find it.

“Solo’s been dealing with a wrist issue, and it’s on his shooting hand. I think you’re going to see, let’s not say a lot, but some players in college basketball would not be playing with the wrist injury that he has right now. I’ll just leave it at that. He’s dealing with a wrist problem on his shooting hand, but the guy is a warrior. I thought he made some winning plays today, driving it and digging the ball out,” said Hurley.

I wonder if he aggravated it in any of the games after his return and before the fall yesterday vs Providence because this is different messaging from when he originally got hurt and missed the DePaul game.
