Aaron torres on uconn

Interesting take and I generally like Torres. I think this is more about our offense:
  • Solo wrist
  • Braylon out
  • Reed seems to sleepwalk sometimes
  • Free throws
  • Bad Bunnies

We fix those and we rock. Top 5 Defense shows effort and killer instinct. Making clutch shots is only one part killer instinct. Gotta be healthy and gotta have your shooting touch right.
 
Would love to see some actual analysis to show there is any such thing. Like, sorry, but a "killer instinct" is not needed for a team to win a championship.

I'd also argue that finding a way to elevate their game to beat all the ranked teams they've beaten is a different manifestation of that same "killer instinct"
 
I just think the wording is off. If you want to say “pull away” or “step on their throats,” fine - even “crush their spirits,” though they’re already doing that defensively. They haven’t shown a lack of killer instinct so far.

More often known as the "kill shot", which is going on runs of 10-0 plus to put teams away. Maya tracks it - not something we are strong in, mainly because we don't create offense off defense, which is huge in terms of this stat.

Demary, Karaban & Mullins have the killer instinct.

What I believe Torres essentially is saying is we don't have multiple players with the high energy playmaking to continuously rip your soul out. We aren't going to put together many kill shots this year or go on crazy runs. We aren't going to demoralize a team in terms of physical domination or gas a team out while running the fast break.

We are the slow drip of pain that just continues to fester.

We are built much differently this year, and unfortunately our second unit has performed a bit lesser than we hoped. But, with all the injuries, getting everyone's best shot, and the refs starting to eat their whistles more as we get into big east play, I'm still quite pleased. I'm just not willing to put as much money on this team now as I was in 2024, lol.

The 3-5 bullets are all characteristics of teams lacking consistent focus and a lack of killer instinct.
 
I read something about Geno and last year's woman's team. Basically it said that the W BB basketball team had some losses midseason because Geno was coaching them to be good in March, not to be good in January.

Dan Hurley's teams consistently seemed to play at their best in March. I don't love our inability to put away dramatically inferior opponents at this stage of the season, but maybe we just need to trust the process..
 


We get an A, but Greggy says it's about to become a D. A bit after 5 minutes. This guy looks for any chance to poopoo the Huskies.

If anything, it’s been pretty impressive the way our guys continually step up at the end of games.

They’ve made some pretty tough/clutch baskets during this stretch to close these games out.

There’s a reason Hurleys teams have peaked in March/april. They don’t run all of their sets and variations of those sets until it really counts. In addition it’s not because the offense is broken right now, it’s because players are missing open shots. If ball and karaban shoot their career averages the past few games they are blowouts. All this negativity is mind blowing.
 
I guess it depends how you define killer instinct.

Is it wrong to define it as "no matter what you throw at us, we still "kill you" in the end"? Why does it seem like killer instinct only applies to blowout wins?
 
It is extremely likely that we are somewhere between the 5th and 15th best team in the country that played an extremely well put together schedule and have done well in close games.
