>>Sean Frazier, Northern Illinois' chatty athletic director, recently slammed the American Athletic Conference (AAC), for portraying itself as a power league along with the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.

Frazier said claims of dominance by the AAC trivialize the efforts of other Group of Five programs in the Sun Belt, Mountain West, Conference USA and MAC.<<

And?

The AAC is generally accepted as the best Group of Five league in the CFP era (since 2014). It has snagged two Group of Five automatic New Year's Six berths in the first four years of the College Football Playoff (Houston in 2015, UCF in 2017).

But the TV marketplace long ago determined the American and the other Group of Five leagues receive only a fraction of the revenue of their Power Five counterparts.

Uh, because they've only had one conference deal and that was during at time of uncertainty as to who would stay.

Dennis Dodd sounds butthurt.

Even though we are still at the bottom of a conference that's still on-the-outside-looking-in... it is easy to sneer and look down on Northern Illinois here. It's been a long time since we have been able to boast like this, I'm enjoying it!

Did he miss UCF vs. Auburn? Legit claim to minimum top 3 team.

No wonder! Frazier has been yelping about a G5 only playoff for the past two years. He's totally thrown in the towel. Although the MAC has produced some respectable programs, NIU and most recently Western MI, still the MAC would have difficulty promoting a P6 stance. Instead of gleaning satisfaction over UCF's stunning season and National title claims, he chooses to knock UCF and the AAC. Aresco wants to lift up the AAC, while Frazier wants to drag down the AAC. As far as I'm concerned, he can shove it! People are working too hard to garner a bigger pay day come contract time. That deal will speak volumes about the distance between the AAC and the rest of the G5.

Here's what Frazier said about the G5 two years ago. Gotta hand it to him, he's consistent and predictable:

"There is absolutely no ability for us (teams in the Group of Five) to be in that national title conversation," Frazier told ESPN's McMurphy. "That's just reality. Anyone that says we can: that's a flat-out lie."

Although it can be debated by the talking heads and fake news media, UCF's body slam over Auburn coupled with a perfect 13-0 season and an AAC championship, put them in the National title conversation. Let's be honest, if UCONN pulled this off, the bell tower would be ringing loudly in Storrs CT!

Northern Illinois AD wants Group of Five football playoff

National champions: UCF Knights finish season ranked No. 1 in Colley Matrix

Frazier is quite the Debbie Downer. Lots of pessimism there.

If you can't compete with others at their high level then the next best thing is to bring down the highest competition to your level. That's exactly what Frazier of Northern Illinois is doing.

The 3.2 TV rating for the battle on I4 was
Impressive. Lot of eyeballs!

USF-UCF a ratings winner for ABC

AAC Championship game was most watched ever.

UCF's Win over Memphis Is the Most-Watched AAC Championship Ever | Black and Gold Banneret | UCF Knights Sports News and Analysis

The Peach Bowl against Auburn carried a 5.2

UCF's Peach Bowl Win Posts Strong TV Numbers | Black and Gold Banneret | UCF Knights Sports News and Analysis

These results prove that the AAC is growing in popularity nationally. Further justifies the P6 label and distances the AAC from the rest of the G5.

They can only be positives in the TV contract negotiations.

Also when comparing league championship game ratings the AAC finished 6th closely behind the PAC 12 and left the rest of the G5 in the dust!

The American Athletic Conference Championship was the 6th-most watched football game of the weekend behind each of the the Power 5’s conference championship games, with the SEC and Big 10 leading the way:
