Memphis is only #1 because you are overpaying Pastner. :)

All that comes from the boosters...I believe the UofM pays Pastner around 199k rest comes from private donors.

We just bumped KO's salary up a couple million in the offseason so I think that will put us over the top next time this list is released. That said, Memphis recruits exceptionally well so I'm not surprised to see them with such a high budget.

Not that it matters but has anyone actually checked the source of this information? The redirected websites source is http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/ in which I see different numbers, unless I'm missing something.

I remember seeing these numbers for the Big East and the article mentioning that the numbers were skewed by who rents and who owns the arenas they play in. UConn plays about half their games at the XL Center, which they rent, and half at Gampel, which they own. I believe Memphis rents FedEx Forum for all their games. Without seeing the breakdown of costs though you can't tell where each school is spending their money.

One thing is for sure, the top 4 schools are clearly spending much more than the rest. And why those 4 schools will have much more success. It really does illustrate why this conference sucks. I bet the P5 conferences don't have many teams in total that spend less than $6 million on their basketball team. I'd be interested to know the answer to that.

Memphis essentially plays for free at FedExForum...

Here are the terms, as announced Monday afternoon by Grizzlies and Tigers officials and Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton:

  • The Tigers will lease the arena for 20 years;
  • The Grizzlies organization guarantees $800,000 per year to the University of Memphis if attendance averages 10,000 per game;
  • All seat ticket revenue and broadcast rights go to the University of Memphis;
  • The university will pick up $10,000 of the estimated $30,000 per game costs, subject after three years to increases based on the consumer price index. Adjustments may be made after 10 years to reflect cost changes, and the remainder paid by the Grizzlies;
  • Parking revenue goes to the Grizzlies, including a minimum of 900 spaces guaranteed to the university for its resale;
  • The university will have the right to revenues from a double party suite. U of M has a luxury suite to every event at FedExForum;
  • The university will keep 100% of revenue from club boxes for its games;
  • The Grizzlies will retain fixed signage revenue;
  • The Tigers will get four free rent days per year, plus a rehearsal day prior to each free day;
  • The U of M locker room will be paid for with FedExForum project funds; and
  • The City of Memphis and Shelby County will provide financial support to the University of Memphis.
Memphis pays 10,000 in rent per game, with 18 games (180,000) [Memphis gets 4 'free events' per year, one is Memphis Madness, and the women's team often gets the other free spots]

At the end of the season the Grizz pay the Tigers 800k if we average at least 10k for the season. (which we always do)

Last # I saw, UConn was paying $50k/game at XL, but that was last contract.

So, Memphis pays 1/5th and gets a much better arena.

As dirty as he is, hopefully Sampson is able to get Houston basketball spending more on facilities and back on the map since that program at least has some history in hoops unlike ECU or Tulane. If we gotta be stuck with these garbage teams at least they need to make an effort to not be dogs against our RPI.

Have to figure that UConn's season runs a little bit longer every year. Keeping the lights on and the uni's clean until April costs money.;)
And the cost of all those rings and championship parades can really add up!

The Grizzlies go out of their way to make sure we're treated fairly.

In CUSA the TV deal was crap, so the Grizz got their TV affiliate (Fox Sports South) to pick up all the Tigers games that weren't on TV.

Grizz also make sure the Tigers get a few prime Saturday night spots.

I'd think most of KOs raise is booster paid...
