>>UCF led the way in payouts. The Knights were followed by Cincinnati ($6.04 million), USF ($5.615 million), Memphis ($4.685 million), Temple ($4.45 million), Houston ($4.354 million), Tulane ($3.608 million), East Carolina ($3.338 million), SMU ($3.297 million), Tulsa ($3.290 million), Navy ($1.978 million) and UConn ($1.08 million).

Connecticut is leaving the conference on July 1, returning to the Big East Conference. The school and the league reached an agreement in which the Huskies would pay a $17 million exit fee by 2026. The Huskies received a smaller payout as part of that exit fee.<<

Is this the only conference that doesn't make equal payments? Why did we have to share basketball tourney money?

Just speculation and I don't care to look it up but I'd say the big XII pays Texas and Oklahoma more than their conference mates.

The payouts are terrible, but it's also before the new TV contract which is more than double (still not enough obviously but better than today.)

It's (the new deal's) average annual payout is actually about what UCF made this year and only a slight increase for Cincinnati. Sure for the ECU's of the world it's a good deal, but even for UCF, Houston, et. al; they've guaranteed themselves only slightly more than they are already getting.. for the next 12 years.

It's over 12 years, too. The average is irrelevant - they get way less than that in the front end of the deal and by the time they make way more at the back end, it'll be way below market.

Aresco did his TV buddies a favor, but not his schools.

Isn't the primary difference bowl money that's used to cover bowl expenses? The top 7 payouts were to bowl teams.

UConn only got paid much less as part of their exit fee.

Nah, he just had zero leverage.

I know for a fact that Tulsa, Memphis and Houston have sent RFP's out to companies for television production. They haven't built any infrastructure to produce or deliver content to ESPN. Houston's RFP is for three years with two optional years. They just want to write a check and have events delivered. They also have the right to cancel the project (once they figure out how to do it) at any time. This will certainly impact the amount of money they receive in this "wonderful" new contract.

I'm not sure your point here. All teams will add about 3.5M because of the TV deal. Yes it's still terrible, but the disbursement includes a lot more than just the media deal.

Interesting. Makes sense, especially if you aren't committed to stay for the length of the contract. Do you have any links?

No links but I've seen the RFP from Houston and the follow up questions and am told of the others by someone high up in the conference office.

The University of Houston Athletics Department is seeking proposals from external production companies to package a minimum of 50 college sporting events projected to begin in September 2020. The format will be 720p or 1080i. Please provide per-game pricing and note if there are any volume discounts after a certain number of events. As part of the proposal, please provide a short executive summary of company operations, historical experience producing college sporting events.

Respondents are encouraged to propose contractual arrangements offering the maximum benefit to the University in terms of (1) services to the University, (2) total overall cost to the University, and (3) project management expertise. Proposers should describe all educational, state, and local government discounts, as well as any other applicable discounts that may be available to the University in a contract for Services.

RESPONDENTS ARE CAUTIONED TO READ THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS RFP CAREFULLY AND TO SUBMIT A COMPLETE RESPONSE TO ALL REQUIREMENTS AND QUESTIONS AS DIRECTED.

Does cable broadcast in higher quality yet? Still dont think there is 1080p on cable and 1080i is basically the same as 720p, no?

A good, recent, TV like the Samsung Q80R QLED has a good upscaler to upscale to approximate 4k....I stream a lot..and much of that is 4K and shows beautifully on the Samsung.

A lot of 4k being broadcast is just upconverted HD...but the LSU-Clemson game was broadcast in native 4k ...on Direct TV ...and Comcast's ESPN football games were 4k on their 4k channel....no HDR yet.

The Fox Thursday night games are upscaled 1080P..

It shouldn't be hard to make as much or as we were making in the AAC.

More critical it should be to make as much or more as what we would make in the AAC going forward.
