Thanks Java, you were right on top of this breaking news item.

4 UConn starters. Sounds reasonable. You really couldn't expect them to name all 5. The other selectees are more than worthy of being named.

Congrats to Kia for DPOY. That means she will now compete against the other Conference's DPOY for National DPOY.

Does Crystal Dangerfield get overlooked because the other 4 starters are obviously so worthy? There was a point during this season that KLS and Crystal Dangerfield were the best players on the team.

a couple other key notes:
(1) Azure Stevens selected for 2nd Team All Conference
(2) Crystal Dangerfield is 3rd Team All Conference
(3) Katie Lou Samuelson was the only 1st team selection that was unanimous... (good chance that means AAC POY too??)
(4) Megan Walker not included in the Freshman Team... bummer!

This is interesting-with Kia being DPOY, she's on the short list of NDPOY which I think that significantly enhances her chances of making one of the 10 member teams for AA!

Bummer for Gabby not able to defend her National Defensive award though...

I think as the season went on Dangerfield realized that she was most valuable to this team as the "floor general". She has done a tremendous job running the offense but unfortunately by deferring to Samuelson, Stevens, Williams, Nurse, etc. for scoring, her stats took a hit. A lot of these coaches (unfairly)put a premium on scoring.

They should have a link that says "AAC All-Conference Team" and directs straight to UConn's roster page. ;)

Disappointed that Crystal wasn’t voted to the 2nd team. She’s the engine that makes it all happen for the winningest team in the AAC!! Sorry, but I’m totally partial!!

Without looking up the numbers, I would guess that Megan did not have the number of total minutes that any of the freshmen selectees had over the course of the season, and I'd also guess that the selection committee felt she did not have the effect on her team that the others had on theirs. I could be wrong.

this was all part of a diabolical plan... Danger took the foot off her offensive game to "feed" her upperclass women teammates so that come conference time other teams will play off her as not a big scoring threat...and then she will rain down on them like no one would ever expect. Brilliant!!! ;):D

From the article

"The remaining major awards — coach of the year, player of the year, freshman of the year and scholar-athlete of the year — will be announced Saturday morning during a press conference at Mohegan Sun Arena."

Any chance this press conference will be online live?

I think she gets overlooked because she's only 5'-5" :D

Dangerfield made a huge jump in performance over last year, and at times was really impressive this season, but there were also significant stretches where she was not as effective. Some of that was certainly due to her injury, but not all, and the evaluation for awards doesn't really take into account 'injury'.

The committee is too chicken to just say that the first team is " The University of Connecticut women's basketball Team." The other players who are listed on the first team may have potential but it will not be realized unless they are coached by Geno, Chris and the rest of the staff. Let's be real here and say what it is. UConn is the best by a wide margin from anyone in the AAC. These other players would be sitting on the bench at Storrs.

USF's Jose Fernandez is this year's AAC conference COY.

.-.
I think the UCF coach did a better job than him

She did more with less. Fernandez has more talent on his team than she has on hers. She turned that program around quickly. In 2-3 years, I suspect UCF may rival USF for "runner-up" supremacy in the AAC.
