lets assume the worst for a second and the uconn cupboard is left bare. for some reason, there seems to be more transfers throughout division one this year. i think the staff should focus on bringing in a few transfers who could provide immediate impact in 2014. assuming next year is a lost season, who cares if these kids have to sit out. i think this is a better alternative than filling the roster up with marginal talent. lets be honest, over the last 4 years, we have wasted a ton of scholarships on kids who simply cant contribute on this level.

While I don't disagree, how would UConn field a team if they get all transfer replacements?

i would suspect that dd, olander, scoe, and boat would stay. give them a ton of minutes and really let them develop. could be a better alternative than sitting out a year. we have omar calhoun coming in. then throw in bradley. again, assuming worst case scenario, this wouldnt be that bad.

It will be very interesting to see what happens going forward if the NCAA does change the years used so UConn is eligible (presumably). I wonder what rising seniors across the country will be affected, similar to how Alex thinks he will be affected. For that matter, what about the year after, if the current years/rules are kept in place?

If the NCAA ever wants to make the years used current, this is the best time. Otherwise they will likely end up in a situation where some school escapes punishment (non-retroactively), which I'm sure would/could cause an uproar.

Some players that would have been eligible for senior transfer with this rule, if the new APR were fully instituted prior to this year (according to Time magazine):
  • Scoop Jardine (SU)
  • Kris Josepph (SU)
  • Verdell Jones III (IU)
  • Brian Conklin (St. Louis)
  • Hernst Laroche (NM State)
  • Wendel McKines (NM State)
  • Hamidu Rahman (NM State)
  • Carlon Brown (Colorado)
  • Austin Dufault (Colorado)
  • Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk St.)
  • Luke Loucks (FSU)
  • Deividas Dulkys (FSU)
There is going to be a lot more poaching of players in the near future.

Under the current proposed APR process NCAA tournament ban, is it possible for a player who is hurting a school's APR performance to transfer to another school and be eligible to play right away? If this is the case, this would be rewarding kids who helped put their schools into the APR mess they are in. They walk and leave the school to deal with the consequences.

If I am correct, the transfer guideline would need to be changed to only allow players to transfer without sitting out a year if they are in good academic standing and on pace to graduate.

This is the thing about the APR - players who actually stay on the team (like Alex Oriakhi) are never the ones who hurt a program's APR. The way to hurt your team's APR is to 1) leave school or 2) flunk off the team.

This team you mention would be lucky to win 3 games in the BE. Get freaking real man.

and the alternative is what? give the scholarships vacated to freshman we otherwise would never look at. my solution keeps us relevant in 2014. whats yours? time for a reality check, man.

They likely can't play in the tournament anyway and there wouldn't be any seniors on the roster.

At this point, I would suggest that we all go into a hibernation state until the 2013-2014 season and pray that Napier, Boatright, Roscoe, Daniels, Olander, Omar, and Giffey are still on the roster. We'd have to recruit well in the classes of 2013 and 2014 to supplement and ultimately replace those guys - but if we can manage to do that, the world wouldn't exactly be coming to an end.

I do agree what you suggest may be an option, I also think they may go after some JuCo players so even if the players aren't "great" they would only be here 2 years instead of 4. Some high energy JuCo would be fine. Of course Duke did somehow manage to get Alex Murphy to commit early, then redshirt his freshman year. Wouldn't help for 2012-2013 but it could be another option.

If the team only losses AD, AO and Lamb it would currently only be able to pick up one recruit anyway. I know there is a possibility that the NCAA gives back a scholarship or two, but it's not 100% yet.
