i've heard from a very reliable source the real reason is that he doesn't want to be a "senior on the bench"

And who can possibly blame him for that.

He was telling Drummond to join.

Took the words out of my mouth. And I just don't buy the whole story about AD taking his spot and causing his regression. AO was given many opportunities to play very similarly to how he did last year, anytime there was a quicker opponent at the 4/5 this year... AD guarded him. AO was not asked to guard quick 4's... he was asked to play the same type of role he did last year. Sure he was technically a 4, but he was still simply asked to play his heart out down low. He rarely showed that, if at all, this year. Too much whining, too much "poor me" attitude, and very little leadership/captain qualities displayed.

Maybe it's a show they're putting on to get a quicker answer from the NCAA about the post-season ban. AO says he's leaving due to the ban, Uconn says we need an answer from the NCAA now because this puts AO in a very bad spot - he has to plan for his future but if he leaves and it turns out there's no ban then he'll have to sit for a year. ;)

Oriaki says he's leaving because Uconn won't be playing in the post-season next year. Yet, the-post season situation is not final. If the ncaa does the APR using current numbers, we're in. Therefore, don't you have to wonder if the possible post-season ban is the real reason that Oriaki is leaving? I dunno.....maybe it's better than Oraki trashing Calhoun on the way out the door.
We'll know within a week to 10 days. My guess is Oriakhi won't transfer before then.

It's always about perceived respect and playing time. Players who transfer have usually had a beef with their coaches over PT at some point. That's the issue for AO, his dad and his old friend Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, who also rode the pine quite a bit. It don't matter if you are in midget basketball or a national championship team, you want your court time. Calhoun in my opinion does a great job giving these kids their opportunities while trying to forge a winning season, but some through their own shortcomings get shortchanged (in their minds).
