A Possibility?

I was not aware that Paige had another year of eligibility.

Yes. It's believed that she may try to leverage her extra year as a way to avoid playing for the WNBA team (Dallas) that is expected to draft her. That seems like a bit much; I expect her to sort things out and move on after this season no matter how UConn eventually does.

Hasn't she already been "drafted" for Unrivaled? If so, she's going pro one way or another after this season.
Either way, I can hardly wait to see her [PB] at the 3x3 Worlds [FIBA 3X3] as I believe her skills would be showcased best. With CC {Caitlyn Clark as the only non-former UConn athlete}, Stewie, & Pheesa [if 5 on 5 at different times], would be my "Dream Team" as they would really be UNRIVALED.

Go Huskies (and former Huskies)!!!!

By definition she already is a pro. As are many others. Just moving on from college is the better way to put it. Only in here case in may mean a cut in overall pay (LOL)

I read she has already signed a pro contract, so I don't expect her back.

No, she has not been drafted for Unrivaled. She is, however, a financial investor. Maybe she will outdo Sue, skip the whole playing basketball part, and go straight to owning a WNBA franchise.
Don't believe everything you read. This is patently false.

It was a NIL deal with an ownership component. Unrivaled recently did something similar with Flaujae Johnson as well.

Paige has signed up to play in the unrivaled league in 2026. She will definitely move on to the WNBA no matter who drafts her. She is a first class person and will not stay to avoid the Wings.

No sense in taking any chances of getting hurt again because that could really hurt her WNBA chances of playing soon.

The only scenario I can picture where Paige stays is if Azzi wants one more season. But even this feels rather unlikely.

I seriously doubt Paige will be back for another season.

She is ready to move forward.
Agree on Paige leaving. (Even the ideas of avoiding Dallas, and having her 1st yr part of new WNBA work agreement don't really make sense for her.)

Real question is future of Azzi, Aubrey and Caroline, who all have eligibility remaining too.

We could lose all, or maybe 1-2 come back for a curtain call. If Caroline regained health, and played next year, it would be like getting a top transfer.

If Aubrey plays this season, which she most likely is, her eligibility is up.

I don't think Aubrey has eligibility left. This is her sixth season having arrived the season before Paige. She's so old she played with Crystal, Kyla, Batouly, and Megan, and those players have been gone for a while.

Aubrey has another year of eligibility, which would be her 7th if she chooses to use it, even if she plays this year. She missed most of 2 seasons due to injury, plus she gets a Covid year. UConn would have to petition the NCAA for a 7th year of eligibility for Aubrey, if it came to that. But the NCAA would most certainly grant it.

No, this will be her last year. Not counting the covid year, she will still have four countable seasons if she steps on the court this year:

1. 2019-20: Played 32 games
x 2020-21: Covid year - doesn't count
x 2021-22: Out with an injury
2 2022-23: Played 35 games
3 2023-24: Played 14 games - too many to qualify for a medical hardship waiver
4 2024-25: Final year if she plays even a minute of any game the rest of the year since we are now in the second half of the season.

Remember that the NCAA has not always been good to us. A short number of years ago when we had our Transfer from TN. a one year sit-out was a requirement without a waiver. We were denied while a number of other schools were given the waivers. A large number of BY'ers were very upset with this. I have my reservations with them, when they talk out of both sides of their mouths.

You are correct that Aubrey played in the first 14 games (35%) of the 2023-24 season, and NCAA guidelines suggest 30% (11 games) as the requirement for an injury redshirt. That’s why I indicated UConn would have to do what many other colleges had done in similar situations, that is petition the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility for Aubrey.

If Aubrey had played in 20+ games and then gotten injured, it might be different. But we’re talking about 3 games more than the guidelines out of a 39 game season, and the NCAA has been receptive to players In similar situations in the past.

While there are certain rules the NCAA waives on occasion, such as the limitation on players only playing five years, I have never heard of the NCAA waving the 30% rule. I do know of some cases where appeals were made, and they did not grant a waiver.

Could you cite some examples of a successful appeal, where the NCAA agreed to ignore the 30% rule?

Well, I looked up a couple players who hung around for several years due to injury and none of them exceeded the 30% rule. So unless I stumble upon someone who does, I stand corrected.
