Where are you seeing Mora was ever offered the Stanford job??
Excellent observations. I do recall at the Coaches Road Show in Stamford ( just before Hurley announced he was going to LA to check out Lakers job) Mora was quite disengaged and disinterested. His wife sat up on the 2nd level seemingly even more disinterested. I remarked to my companions that his body language was just apathetic they concurred. Fast forward after 2 successful seasons he leaves. I noticed his press conferences this year lacked enthusiasm.

Jim Mora was not getting the Stanford job. Only job he was offered was Colorado State. He could not even get the Oregon State nor Washington State jobs he applied for. It is pretty obvious he wanted out of UConn before he thought his coaching creds would take a nosedive based on next season results.
College players at all FBS schools are just rentals. I was going to say seasonal rentals but that is not even true since some players will shut down after 4 games to reserve their redshirt year. Lol
I went to the Road Show when he first got here. Completely opposite, both of them. Sounds like he was done here then. Again, he thought the B12 thing was going to happen and when it fell through he was on to Plan B.
Agreed I was also at one in Southington after his first year. Big XII flags were flying in the parking lot. He was jabbering with alumni by the bar. He wasn’t one of the coaches on stage but he was present. When the Big 12 opportunity disappeared he probably began thinking about his exit plans. We benefited by his success. Admittedly it was fun again to go to UConn football games.
Happens all the time with coaches in basketball and in football, or in any high profile college sport. Bolt when your team hits its peak with a likely talent dropoff the next year and the loss of coaching cred and future job opportunities. Pitino did team switching over the years after his teams peaked. So did Beilein, and way back when, Shabel probably did it and Burr Carlson got the leftovers(5-19 in his second and last year in 1969). Fortunately, Dee Rowe resurrected the program and upgraded the recruiting. And the rest is history.
Because the way he handled leaving was questionable to say the least. If he had made the kinds of typical statements that coaches make when they leave a program, and if he wasn't actively trying to poach us, he probably would catch less heat. But given the way he's handling his departure, it isn't surprising that he's burning the goodwill that he would otherwise have.
We played 3 P4s and should have won all 3. No telling how good teams are gonna be when you schedule them. JMU played 1 P4 and lost. He did a fine job, but if his heart ain't in it its best he goes anyways.

Pitino and Beilein did it to move up in their profession. They weren't running because they were scared the team wouldn't be good the next season.
Name a coach who has left a football or basketball program that does not poach players or coaches. I am guessing you are drawing a blank.
Your correct most if not all do. However we have a coach who a year ago called out all other programs for poaching UConn players. Thats called hypocrisy.
