This year is truly a low point in college football. Between the conference raids and the PSU mess, this whole season seems to be showing the ugly underbelly of college football. At its core, money and greed is eating away at a great American tradition and one of the last bastions of competition for the sake of sport and school pride. Money is the corruptor of PSU and the decisions not to protect children. The lust for media marketshare and destroying competition from other conferences all in the name of TV revenue is a cancer tearing apart conferences. Pretty depresing year.

It has always been there its just that everything is bubbling to the top. We like to fool ourselves but reality is many of our institutions have some form of corruption and now its time for them to be fixed... after all 2012 is almost here

Earlier I said that this was like the sport's "lost year". But it could just be that this sport's "golden age" is over. Realignment is confusing and frustrating. It's blown apart long standing traditional rivalries in favor of the cynical pursuit of TV ratings and intangible prestige.

The Penn State thing is in a whole different category. But it is shaking the sport to the core because the one guy we thought was above the fray, is actually just as much of an unethical coward (but he gets his own special category) as the others but this failure on his part to get a monster under control is incomprehensible.

It was all done in the name of protecting legacies and reputation. It's very saddening.
