A lot to like

Of course it's early, but 37.7% and 6 out of 20 3s against Colgate? C'mon.

Everybody knows this will be our weak point but I don’t believe opponent had much to do with it.

2 guys being 3 for 19 will effect your shooting %. One we know can shoot and the other, while not a great perimeter shooter just needs to adjust on his drives pull up for some mid range or floaters. Not concerned.

Hope you're right.

Individuals are still taking bad shots, usually a bail out shot because they can't run the play.

I know it's only one game, but as we watched last night I couldn't help thinking about how weak UConn was the last four years, with Brimah and Facey as the big men, and how much more forceful and aggressive Cobb and the freshmen were against Colgate. Think about the inside play last night and recall how Brimah had no moves after four years and always seemed to be out of position for rebounds and putbacks. Facey seemed like such a nice kid but never looked confident.

The guards, save Anderson, struggled though and Vital surprised us with how ineffective he was. We didn't think he looked anywhere like he did at the end of last year, and he should have been the one taking on Adams' load last night. Hopefully both he and Gilbert were off only because they were trying too hard to take up the slack.

Now if, and it realistically is a big if, if some or most of the newcomers develop during the season as much as Jackson and Vital did last year, this could be a team like the 2011 champions. That team had seven freshmen and one strong, returning, player in Kemba. Not saying there's a Kemba on this team yet, but if Larrier's performance last night is an indicator of the type year he's going to have and Adams is better than last year UConn may yet again "shock the world".
Basketball is a team game, not everyone will have great games every game. It was Larrier and Anderson v. Colgate could be Gilbert Diarra and Vital next game. At the end of the game we just need one more point than the other guys

The season is young and for a brand new team they appeared to click well. Most of the mistakes seem to be easy fixes such as AG forcing passes and being afraid to shoot open 3s. If KO is any sort of coach, those mistakes will be fixed.

The answer to 3 point shooting for our team is quite simple. Jalen and Gilbert need to combine for three 3’s a game that’s all. Combined with Vital, Larrier and Anderson our problem is solved. Shouldn’t be that difficult but who knows? This was a pount of emphasis over the offseason and both those players should have worked their tails off on that. So far it don’t look like Gilbert did, we’ll see on Jalen.

That's what happens when your starting PG isn't playing. I would've liked to see a better-run offense too but last year we couldn't do anything when Jalen sat, so at least we had some improvement there.
