They have UConn as the "three time defending champion" also. I was wondering, isn't UConn the 2 time defending champion since they obviously didn't defend the title the first year of the streak ? Or is it just accepted as winning 3 in a row even though that's not its literal meaning ?

Defending Champion = won last championship....
2 x Defending Champion = won last 2 championships.
3 x Defending Champion = won last 3 championships.

Seems pretty straight forward to me...

They defended the 2013 Championship in the 2013-14 season.= Defending champions.
They defended the 2014 Championship in the 2014-2015 season. = 2X Defending champions.
They are defending the 2015 Championship in this 2015-2016 season.= 3X Defending champions.
