A little help for Q

Q did show that she learned something in the SJ game. When her 3 pt shot is not falling she has to drive to the hoop--keep driving or dish. She attacked the hoop a few times. She is quick and agile. Q had a great move on a break that showed her "Aubrey Like" skills.

How is it we now have a player labeled as Q ??? Time after time and no one cares?
This while just a short time ago many were reprimanded for referring to Olivia Nelson Ododa as O?
Another page in the book of things you can't make up. The forum moves on..... ;)
GO HUSKIES.....
Q, KK, Ice, and Ash are their nicknames. It’s easier to yell “Q, screen!” than to say “Qadence, screen!” when you can only have a second to warn her

Q has a great upside, but...

I'd like to expand a little on your post. I didn't follow Q in HS, but I bet she was not only the best player on her team but also the best player on any team she faced. Q was probably the lion's share of her team's offense and defense was just something you did between taking shots. If this got ingrained in her BB IQ it may take some time, coaching, and maturity to have her talents come together at the D1 level. But when that happens, watch out. The kid has God given BB gifts.

Actually, that's not the case at all. McNamara's roster included Sahnya Jah (HG #40 in 2023, transferred to Monteverde for her senior year, now at SC), Madison McDaniel (HG #12 in 2024, SC commit), Zhen Craft (HG #28 in 2025), along with Qadence. Recent players at McNamara have included Aliyah Matharu (Florida), Madison Scott (Ole Miss), and Jakia Brown-Turner (NC State/Maryland). In most years, the team has 1-2 top-50 players on the roster.

McNamara plays in a tough conference and has played against players such as Azzi Fudd, Kiki Rice, Jadyn Donovan, and Kendall Dudley, all ranked well above Qadence.

I think it's more accurate to say that Q was a solid player on a very good team that played high-level competition. She was never the star.

I gave your point a thumbs up Nan but you quoted me while not answering my question. Why was it so frowned on to refer to Olivia Nelson Ododa as O on this forum? Maybe as you suggest it might have saved her a few bruises. ;)

Q, looks just fine for a freshman player who comes into the game late, cold and expected to deliver right away. What it looks like to me is that she really doesn't have a rhythm with the starting rotations probably due to lack of practice time with the top 6 players. When given minutes the negatives are balanced out with positive plays. Unfortunately she doesn't get big minutes which then everyone over critiques a few bad plays. I love her grit and aggressiveness.
She did fine in the summer exhibitions and actually seemed to be ahead of KK and Ash playing along the starters.

You have a point, sort of. I don't like shortening players' names unless I know they prefer it. But we have now heard Geno and her teammates refer to her as Q, which I think must mean she approves this nickname. In the beginning of the season, I always typed out Qadence until I heard Geno and Paige and Aaliyah and KK say Q. Of course, things may have to change if her little sister ends up in Storrs.

And by the way, O, as I recall, was not a recognized nickname for Olivia Nelson Ododa within the team. But Liv was.

Maybe because Olivia's nickname was Liv not "O".

I believe that Q is doing just fine. She's got the green light from Geno to put it up whenever she has a shot, and she is no shrinking violet when it comes to shooting it. The shots will fall more often.

Q is a freshman and it’s January. We’ve seen freshmen hit the wall before. I believe if Q just keeps on working on her game, sh’ll get through this fine.

This. Geno throws a lot at his kids. This year's freshman class doesn't have the luxury of sitting and watching. KK and Shade are having amazing years, but they are the exception for freshman.

Q is extraordinarily talented. She just needs to focus on the things she does exceptionally well particularly hitting the open three. Based on her expression, it seems like she has been a little frustrated during the games. She needs to shake it off and focus on the next play. I agree with Nan that we have seen a lot of very good freshman struggle at this point in the season deter it around for the postseason. Q will figure it out.
