In the euphoria of #12 ,and a another dominant win, there was something in the 4th quarter that was a little different. When we went to our "Small" lineup, the spread spacing that was being used, showed the potential of a different half court offense.
When you get absolutely no offense from the post position, the defense does not have to guard them. This means that defender is free to park under the basket and to help everywhere else. Going to a spread offense where 3 point shooting is at all points and the lane is not clogged, penetration becomes a big advantage.
When you have three players that can penetrate at will, Fudd, Strong and Arnold, it makes the team close to being un-guardable. KK was unstoppable. Fudd and Strong can get by anyone guarding them. They can finish or kick out to the 3 point line. (See Fudd's kick to Ash that made it 36-26).
Now Geno won't change his philosophy away from weaving and everyone touching the ball. But moving forward, he seems to be more open to the possibilities of opening the offense up.

As a basic component of his offense, Geno often puts the 5 at the high post. I often second guessed that move because teams would dare the high post to take that wide open 15 footer. ONO didn't shoot there much, Aaliyah did eventually but it took a couple of years. Jana and Ice rarely do. Sarah doesn't count because she is freak of nature. LOL

Putting the 5 at the high post reinforces the OP's point. With 5 out high, it frees up the wings to penetrate and shoot or kick the ball out.

Jana and Ice had two roles at the high post. Reverse the ball and set screens. Both got so much more comfortable as the year wore on because they were making the correct passes and not forcing it like they did earlier. Beers, from OK, played off the post and got crushed because of it.

Eventually, Jana, like Aaliyah will have the green light to shoot from there. Hopefully, though, her post moves improve enough so that she can be option there too.

Silly me for every second guessing Geno. Jana's minutes in the tourney were limited only because of foul issues. Her rebounding and offense greatly improved by season's end.

I am still very high on JANA becoming the player I think she is. In the NC games she showed what she is capable of as they were very important in the wins. In those games she showed a confidence that I hadn't seen before. The JANA from the FIBA games is there and just has to show itself.Uconn has a 'diamond' in JANA and GENO and VHRIS will cut and polish her to shine, GO JANA!!!!!!!

This. Technically, she's just finished her freshman year of playing, and did a pretty good job against some of the more experienced posts, especially in the postseason.
