One casino is not going to turn Hartford into Atlantic City and the trend is clearly for casinos being built in urban areas now.

I guess. On other hand, perhaps you are underestimating Hartford's ability to turn anything into an absolute sh!tfest.

East Hartford Casino

EH developer is trying to get MMCT to develop showcase cinemas in EH again. He is proposing the state to impose an increase of current 25% slot from Foxwoods and Mohegan to 35% for 3rd casino and create a new 15% collection on table games.

At face value, that makes sense - that cinema is an eyesore.

But reading through it, the guy has a lot of ideas, lots of ideas of how people can pay for his ideas, but not a lot of money. Also, he seems to be shoveling a lot of stuff onto the table that no one is asking for - a UConn culinary school?

Where is East Windsor, btw? Too lazy to Google it.

Boutique Casino In Hartford Was On The Table Before Senate Vote, Unclear If Proposal Will Return - Hartford Courant

I think they should bring this Hartford casino up again in the house bill.

Either create casino competition to let MMCT, MGM, and other casino operator bid for a spot in EH, EW, or BPT area.

Or make MMCT pay a 50-100 million license fee to expand into EW

Or let them build in EW and build a smaller "boutique casino" in basement of XL or a convention center and a smaller license fee - say 25 million.

Use that $ and a % from smaller casino to upgrade XL center/other development in Hartford.

No doubt, we're gonna see another casino somewhere in CT. The state has the high card so we should no matter what get a little bonus for letting them expand outside of their tribal land.

A small Hartford casino makes much too much sense for Connecticut politicians to enact. It would also provide another amenity for the Convention Center to sell to visitors and increase their business which would also help restaurants etc. I have never understood the lure of a dead cinema or failed dinner theater. Somebody has to be bribing someone for those ideas to be the front runners.
